This is for the GHI Challenge. I used stickles to create the mat for the picture in the middle and on the seeds of the strawberries. I stitched the zig-zags and the x's to tack down the bottom photos. And the quote, which I wrote, is handwritten on the tag. The hidden journaling is also handwritten.
I paper-pieced the strawberries on the bottom using a clipart.
Journaling (hidden behind the middle picture) reads: Last year you were scared to death of the pool. If anyone even went near the water, you would scream! But this year Kristine and Gregg had a pool in their back yard and you seemed to do ok to play near it, so I was excited to see if you would actually go in the water. We bought you a new swimming suit for your birthday and went to Jenn Davis’ pool. Daddy tried to take you directly into the pool and you just weren’t having it. The screams weren’t like last year but you squirmed and whined until we took you out. After that we could not even convince you to put your feet in the water. You just wanted to sit in the chairs and sun bathe. However, Uncle Derrick (Der, as you call him) was much more patient with you. He slowly coaxed you over by the water using a cup and splashing the water out as you went. The two of you waded into the hot tub (we turned the jets and stuff off and the temperature down so it wasn’t too hot) and sat on the steps while you dumped water with your cup. Gradually he got your farther into the water. He grabbed your hands and swirled you through the water like you were dancing. I am not sure who was having more fun, you or Derrick! I just love the look of admiration on both of your faces! You knew you could trust him and that he would keep you safe from the scary water, which turned out to not be so scary after all.
