Finally scrapped these pics from last July. TFL!

Journaling reads

Last Tuesday night I got injured scrapbooking, yes, SCRAPBOOKING! I never thought of scrapping as a dangerous hobby until now that is! Here's what happened...
I sat down like I do almost every night to scrap. I laid out 4 layouts that I just knew were going to be good. You guys know what I mean...that feeling you get before you do a great layout. Anyway's I start on my first layout and all is going well. I decide this layout definitely needs something....hmmm....oh I know! It needs a star! So I go to get these stars I got at walmart. They are wooden and I split them in half to make two of them. The way the star is made it is two pieces of really thin wood glued on top of one another. So I go to split them using a razor just like I have done several times before.
I do all the points of the stars first to "loosen" the glue up. I am having some problems with one of the points so I gripe it really tight in between my thumb and first finger on my left hand and apply all the strength in my right hand with the razor. This was obviously too much for the wood to handle be cause it snaps causing the blade to slice though my thumb, yes right through it! Not panicking yet I feel a warn sensation come over my thumb. I very quickly realize that this is not a small cut. I wake up Jess who is napping on the couch telling him I cut my hand pretty bad and I think I needed to go to the ER. He goes to the kitchen to get some papertowels and by this time the blood is gushing from my thumb. He sees that and rushed me to the restroom to get a washcloth to cover my mutilated thumb. We wait a few seconds and try to take a peak to see how bad the damage is. This only angers the wound causing more blood to gush from it. By this time the pain is setting in (seeing the inside of my thumb didn't help) so I start to panic. Jess runs to get my shoes and off to the ER we go.
We get there and the take me back right away. Jess has to fill out some paperwork so I am alone with the Dr's who are not helping my panicking any. They see the cut and start to say stuff like oh man that's deep. Before long my arm is laying in a pool of my own blood. The pain is so intense at this point so I am pretty hysteric. The Dr keeps telling me to take some deep breaths and remain calm. ummm...are you kidding me? My arm in literally in a pool of my blood! To make matter worse my Dr looks like a 12 year old! Paging Dr Doogie Houser. She gives me a motrin, I am thinking are you serious?? MOTRIN?? What is that going to do? They decide to numb it so they can get an xray to see exactly what damage I have caused. They numbed in between my first finger and my thumb and then on the outside of my thumb around the knuckle. I go get my xray and I managed to not hit my bone some how so they are going to stitch me up now. Big mistake! I don't injure myself often and I had no idea that my family has a very high tolerance to lidocaine and things of that nature. So around the site of the injection was numb but the cut was not. She starts to stitch and I freak out and scream. I felt everything! It was so horrible. So they give me two more shots around the same areas of the last. We wait a few minutes and try again. She does a few stitches and is working her way up and she gets a spot where it's not numb again. She just could not believe I was feeling pain and did another. At this point I am ready to suture her hand to her face! So they try another approach and gave me a shot directly in my wound. Still feeling some pain I bit down on my lip and let her finish. The stitching through the nail is what got me the most. i ended up with 15 stitches total!
So most of the next few days are a blur. I was so messed up on pain med's I was sleeping around 17 hours a day. Between that and the antibiotics (which I have to take 4 times a day!!) I was feeling pretty bad. I was throwing up off and on Friday because of them.
What a mess I have been. I have not been able to do much on my own. Well at first I could not. I did not realize how much I used my thumb and the muscles attached to it. I struggle to button my pants, hook my bra and open things. I also can not submerge my thumb so washing my hair, bathing and even washing my hands is pretty challenging.
I am so mad at myself for being so careless but all I can do is laugh about it. I mean who hurts themselves scrapping? THIS GAL THAT'S WHO!!!
I am sure this happened for a reason.
I have to say I have developed a new appreciation of my thumb though. I think most of us may take it for granted. lol, maybe I am the person who is suppose to write a thumb appreciation book?
OR
Maybe my body does not want this left thumb and it's rejecting it. I nearly cut this thumb off in metal shop in 7th grade. Maybe my body will just go to any means necessary to get ride of it? Touche body, but you will have to try a lot harder then that.....
