My niece had done temp work the summer before at the WTC. My nephew's work had recently relocated there, though he was at a different branch. It was a horrible thing that happened and everyone felt connected together, even if it was just momentary. {hugs} to you. I'm sorry about your friend and all the others that lost family and friends. .... sooo sad..... I do like how you wrote on the picture and think adding the journaling not only will help with the healing, but it's also a first hand account for your future generations to read, a piece of history.
This LO is a precious touching remembrance of better days before such a horrible tragedy struck so many. It brought tears to my eyes and pride to my soul, remembering all those that were lost and all those that worked so valiently for so long through all the destruction. I think it speaks to the proud American in all of us!
SHCG: Sharon, my sweet, sweet friend. This layout is so amazingly poignant and perfect. Your handswriting is beautiful on the photo and your words truly convey the healing that has taken place. More than anything else, I want to say that it is obvious the amount of love and thought that you put into this layout. It is beautiful.
SHCG: My heart aches for you every time you make reference to her friend and how violently she was taken from you. Yet, your work definitely conveys that you are on the positive spectrum of the healing process. I am always so grateful and honored when you share such personal events in your life, Sharon. I love the style of your handwriting scrawled across the sky in the photo. It is a perfect response to my challenge. I also love seeing that Ellie Pooh cs put to use. Using it also further reinforces the idea that life is cyclical.
Hey Sharon Love your WTC pic. Never been to NYC, but I know WTC pics are a rare commidity - would love a digital copy of a phto of the towers so I can scrap my own story about the god-awful day!
shcg: what a touching journal of a life event. beautiful lo. .the torn red paper conveys the raw emotions of that day.dh commented without even reading your description, how he liked the suttle red white and blue theme. the calmness of the white background and the violence of the torn red paper. thanks for sharing.
Stunning lo !first, sorry for your loss ! you did such an awesome job remembering your friend and recording your account of this sad, sad day !When I zoomed on the lo I was able to see the texture of the papers you used-just beautiful here! The white pp is so appropriate for this lo-it just makes me think of calm, peaceful clouds. The red paper has great texture too! And the purple paper looks so cool with the specks! Great, great lo! I just love it all!
SHCG: I love what you've done for this page. My favorite part (other than the awesome photo) is the white paper. It has a very calming effect. I also like how you tore the red paper. Great response to the challenge!
SHCG: I love the pocket idea for this subject. I don't know that 1,2 or even a dozen pages could cover this subject for you. The LO is beautiful and I wouldn't change anything about it.
SHCG: Sharon this is beautiful. I completely understand why you would have kept this page simple as the focus should be entirely on your photograph, which it is. It was a perfect example for the "write on photo challenge." I love your use of red, white, & blue here. The different textures are subtle and perfect. Wonderful job!
Sharon, I'm so sorry for your loss ~ I know that you making this LO must have helped you alot. It's beautiful, love the writing on the photo and the journaling is perfect for that photo :)
SHCG: Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I know this isn't easy for you. The journaling sums this up perfectly, and I wouldn't change a thing.
SHCG: Sharon I love your answer to the challange, your journaling is awesome. I know this came from your heart which makes it mean sooo much more than just a pic and some paper. Lot of hugs to you during documenting your journay though this time in your life.
SHCG: Sharon, this is simply beautiful! I'm a fan of simplicity anyway and you have it pegged with this one and i also believe this was the perfect LO to use for the "writing on your photos" challenge. It just seems perfectly appropriate. The colors are mellow yet have a dramatic effect especially with the muted colors on the photo. I dont know what else to say except for, Well done!
Some of you who know me are aware that I lost one of my best friends on 9/11; I'm currently working on a LO that chronicles our 6+ years of friendship & good times, I didn't want to focus solely on her passing. That being said, I did want to finally record my experience of 9/11 – waking up to my mom's answering machine messages; being a NYCer at home watching the tragedy unfold; learning later that my friend was inside; gathering w/ her family & friends to pass out fliers, mourn & lean on each other; & my life since.
I wanted to make this a pocket page from 2 pieces of cs so that I could slip my account of 9/11 inside & not have to worry about editing it down to fit the page.
This is my response to twinscrapbee/Brenda's “Write On Your Photos” challenge for Scrap Happenzz Critique Group. The quote on the photo is from the end of my account. Don't know if you can tell but the translucent white paper is textured in kind of floral imprints, & the red was lightly stamped w/ a background stamp. The background is Ellie Pooh cs, which has a gorgeous textured & cool speckled look. The big white flower was an '07 birthday giftie from one of SHCG's former leaders, Kaleidascope (thanks K).
The photo was taken by a friend of mine one day when we were driving by. As w/ a lot of NYCers, the WTC held a special place in my heart – I met another best friend while temping there years ago; years later, I would later have another long-term, very enjoyable assignment there. It wasn't just the 2 buildings, it was a whole complex of stuff, such a cool place … “a vibrant community, an enjoyable place to work & a comforting & grand highlight in our skyline.”
I wanted to go simple & subtle on this one…I also wanted an understated patriotism to shine forth too, which I tried to do w/ the colors.
If you'd like to read my journaling (2 pages), feel free to PM me w/ your e-mail address & I'll send you a Word copy. I heal through sharing & I know it would be of interest to some people.
