Page dedicated to one of the most wonderful girlfriends one can wish for. Journaling in an envelope taped to the back of the page reads:

Finding a good friend is like finding a treasure. When I first met Gabi, I knew I found such friends. She is absolutely amazing person. She is the friend that you know you’ll have tons of fun times with but you can count on when the times are not so happy and she’ll be there no matter how bad things get.

We met during my au-pair stay on small Island Guernsey which is part of Channel Islands, Great Britain. It was shortly after a girl that I befriended after my arrival left to go back home and I was feeling kind of lonely trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my day (since I got off early that day) when the phone rang and Gabi was on the other end. She arrived to Guernsey few days before that and was trying to find friends to spend her free time with. She got my number from another au-pair. We decided to meet that evening for a cup of coffee. She picked me up and after the 5 minutes drive from the place I lived in to downtown we knew we’ll be friends for life.

Not only we were from the same country, we also had exactly same first name, were born the same year, loved the same music, simply had way too much in common.

We spend many more happy months on Guernsey, exploring the island, hanging out with other au-pairs, shopping, clubbing, and enjoying our lives. Then the time came our contracts were over and we had to return back home. We kept in touch despite the 200 miles that now separated us and would visit each other often, meet our families and deepen our friendship.

Even after I moved to USA (now 9000 miles apart) we make sure we keep each other up to date on what’s new in our lives and always looking forward the next time we’ll see each other. All photos on this page are from our last visit in 2004 when Gabi and her husband had us stay with them for a week and showed us many wonderful places around Prague where they live.

As I said – finding a good friend is like finding a treasure – and I will forever be thankful for the friendship we had and tried to be as good of a friend to Gabi as she always had been to me.
