My Great Grandmother was Mary Sue Criner she married Oliver Hugh Hunigan. She was Indian, some say Cherokee but I have found more evidence that Her grandmother was a Croatan from The Roanoke area. She was born 1862 in Montgomary Co Va. Married Oliver in 1881 in Floyd Co Va. They had a large family. Around the turn of the Century they moved to Sullivan Co Tn. My Grandfather died in 1922.. Mary Sue was run over and killed by a car in front of her home in 1926. I think it was the first time a drunk driver killed someone in Tn. It was said that she was a kind wonderful woman who was always helping sick people..
