This is such a beautiful layout, and the poem made me cry.
Thanks also for sharing how you created the layout. That's so helpful for beginning scrappers like me.
Wow, this is sooo beautiful!! There is nothing about it I would change! The poem your daughter wrote for you brought tears to my eyes, such love ... I'm very sorry to hear your childhood wasn't what it was supposed to be, but obviously it showed you how to be a terrific mom, and your daughter must make you very proud! I know I like her already, just by reading her beautiful words to you! xxx Peggy
This is SOOOOOO beautiful...made me teary-eyed! Just gorgeous page! Your dd took the photos, yes? This is just excellent. Let's see; the pp choice, the journaling, the frame overlay, flower/buttons, cello word strip. You did a fantastic job, lady! :-) xxx shawn (Sorry to hear that your mom brought you heartache, but I think your dd is right, it made you a wonderful mom, so much so that she gave you such a meaningful gift with a heartfelt message behind it.)
About the pictures: These are photos of my cello and my daughter's violin that my DD took for me a few weeks ago….
Journaling at Top of page: “Jessica and Micaela gave me a cello and music stand for Mother's Day, 2008. Jessica's poem says she wishes she could replace the things I lost growing up. But I wish I could learn to play the cello again, the way I did a quarter of a century ago!”
Journaling at Bottom of page (a poem written by my DD): “Your mother took so much from you, and it seemed from that you learned. You've always been the best mother, that hero spot you earned. You've given me everything she took from you, and so much more than that, I only wish I had the means to give it all back. But time machines do not exist and I did not win the lottery, but I figured replacing that cello she sold, would fix one sad memory. ~Written by Jessica and engraved on the back of my cello”
About the scrapbooking: • I used patterned black and white for the background page, then placed a strip of black paper vertically, placed a strip of dark green horizontally, and placed a strip of narrower black & white music sheet paper horizontally. I inked the edges of all papers except the music sheet paper. • Then I placed a 5x7 photo and covered it with a handmade transparency frame (printed on my printer). • I printed the journaling on two separate sheets of dark ivory cardstock and inked the edges of the journal pieces. • I hand cut another photo of the cello that shows the poem my DD etched into the back. • I covered various sizes of chipboard flowers with scrap papers, inked the edges, then sanded and distressed them. • I used a new technique to make the “cello” strip…by inserting a 3/8 inch wide strip of paper with a white core into my old Dymo label maker, I embossed words onto the strip of paper, then sanded it to have the white core show through. • Lastly I added a few buttons to the flowers and the page.
