SHCG: The stitching seems harsh to me and the text seems to be going in too many directions. I also think the pins are too large for the photos and distract. The color combo is good. I think the bottom photo is the strongest of them all and should be made larger, or made to be the focal point with embellishments. Also the journaling on the tag needs some equal margins to make it look neater. TFS!
SHCG: WTG trying things outside of your comfort zone. I've looked at this lo a few times this month, and I keep having the same initial reaction as part of Chris's critique. The flow does appear disjointed to me--both in photos and in text. However, you have a number of good elements and a good color scheme to work with; you just need some paring down and some repositioning. For example, the stitching and the blue ribbon strip seem a bit jarring and harsh in their jagged patterns. I'd get rid of those and the safety pins, except for the one holding up the journaling block. I get your two voices, but I can see how it can be confusing. I'd punctuate it this way: "Corrie says: 'I'm always happy-- Just give me what I want!'" Or, you can use ellipses instead of the interruption mark. I'd also put these two parts of his quote closer together. The diagonal just isn't working for me. I can see the middle pic underneath the first, with an arrow coming from the left side of the first and down into the next (or use one of those safety pins after all). Then place the last pic to the right of the second, again directing focus with an arrow (or saftey pin) from the bottom right of the second into the bottom left of the final pic. This L shape will leave room for the first part of the quote to appear to the right of the first pic. So, you'll have a block. Then, you can place the second half of the quote under the final pic, on the other piece of corrugated cardboard, to make it your focal photo. Your journaling block could also be safety pinned to the left side of the second photo, and placed below it. I hope this helps. Let me know if you'd be interested in me sending you a sketch to clarify what I see.
SHCG: I love the progression of pics from sad to happy, how cute is he??? I like the cardboard, goes with the boyish theme. Is this all digital? I used to use a sb program on cd for my earlier los but I bet it's so advanced these days.
SHCG: I like this one! Its boyish with the cardboard and the colors. I agree with shadowing the words and I wonder if you can faux ink the edges of the red PP?
SHCG: I second sharon's comment I'm really confused as to who is happy and who is saying what about who? and does the word "Just" go with the first picture, "Give Me" go with the second picture... If not I would put the words closer together. Is the fact he is smiling in the third photo the "what you want"? The words are like a puzzle and I just don't understand them...
SHCG: Marsha, I remember hearing this quote, too. Great quote to add with the photos. I would love to see the "Just give me what I want" a little bit closer to each other. I like the little cardboard pieces to add a little bit of roughness to a cute little boy layout. Also, if you could shadow your words a bit, I think it would make them jump off the page a bit more. So cute.
SHCG: Great lo! The colors and photos are awesome. However, I would remove the cardboard under the "give me" and make all the word in the title the same size.
SHCG - Marsha, so cool that you say you went out of your usual comfort zone on this! I very much like the playful variety of elements, textures & colors here, as well as the overall placement. Cute pics! I'm a bit confused about all the text though. I'm getting that Corrie is happy from the quote on the upper right, then I'm thinking it's because he gets what he wants (per the title). Then the journaling...is it said from your perspective, or is it from his? If it's from his, then the message I'm getting is, he remembers when his parents said "Give me what I want" & then it shuts him up because he's always happy & obliges his parents? Or is HE the one saying "Give me what I want" in which case, he then shuts up when his parents say it, because he's happy? Or he gets what he wants then he's happy? I'm just not clear how that journaling fits w/ the messages in the other quote & the title, you know? Or is the journaling from your perspective, & again, how so? Like I said, I'm diggin this so much visually but I recommend reworded journaling; that would really help me appreciate this even more because I'd love to know more about adorable memories you're conveying here. :)
kit: boy blue font garamond. No I don't think little boys should get everything they want. I just remember my parents saying this when I was a kid. it pretty much shut me up.
