First off I'm so sorry! I've lost 2 beautiful and wonderful Labs to cancer and one that was my heart as well. I went through a lot of hard time over 10 years ago and my Gus with with me every step of the way. I had to put him to sleep for old age. I think of him all the time. This is a wonderful tribute to your Dakota Jake!
Oh my gosh, I have such a lump in my throat after reading this! I understand how you must have felt because I lost both my Boer-boels last year. One to cancer and the other to degeneration of the spine. They were brother and sister and they were with me for thirteen years! I am so sorry and I am sure you still miss Dakota Jake as I still miss my two friends very much! Cathy
A fitting tribute to Dakota I think, it is beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss, I know how it is, I still have my George sitting on the shelf after he left 18 months ago, but eventually he will be buried under my tree of life. {HUGS}
I know its been awhile since i've checked w/ you and i' am very upset about your loss....short lived but well loved.the lo is gorgeous...the autumn browns w/ the brisk sky blue is wonderful,,,,lots of love in this one :)
:( I am soooo sorry about your loss. I know how I would feel if I lost my Oliver so my heart goes out to you! I found a quote on here once if you have another picture of him that you would like to scrap, preferably with him sitting at or near your feet. "A HEARTBEAT AT MY FEET", especially since you refer to him as your heart! :(
I am so sorry ...makes me so sad that you lost him...It is so hard to lose a pet they are so much a part of the family...this lo is beautiful and a great way to preserve his memory !!!
Ohhh, I feel so sad for you after reading your story! I had never seen your gallery before! Even in your sadness, you have created a beautiful memorial to him! He will always live in your memories!!
Wow, your description brought chills to my spine! How sad to lose a pet. I am sorry for your loss. On a good note: this is a very beautiful page! Well done!
Terri, I'm so sorry about your baby...what a beautiful look in those eyes too.
You've done a great job in honoring your love. I'm too sad for your loss to know what else to say!! Beautiful LO though! Awesome photo of an obviously close family member.
PS: I personally believe that when we get to heaven our sweet precious furry friends will be there waiting for us! Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart! Amen...and I'm counting on it!
God is good, and He is sweet and tenderhearted! If every good and perfect gift comes from above, then why wouldn't it be waiting for us when we go there? Right? : )
Such a great tribute to your best friend. My tears are with you. I dread the day I have to say goodbye to my babies. Just keep the memories with you. Spectacular tribute! So sorry for his passing!
I grew up with a series of Labs, and they are the sweetest dogs! I remember well the heartache of losing each of the 3 that I loved so much during my years at home. This page is such a lovely remembrance, and I'm so glad you won the pet challenge. Well deserved, not only for the LO, but the lovely journaling.
Your page is so deeply touching, but so sad. What a joy our animals are to us. So sorry you lost your wonderful friend. My heart goes out to you. Your page is a lovely tribute and what a beautiful job you did to honor him.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet pup. It is so hard to lose a pet, especially when they are dogs. This layout is more than beautiful, and it is a lovely tribute to the love still in your heart. You take care.
Omg, this is such a beautiful page, and like so many others your journaling has brought tears to my eyes, bringing back the memories of those terrible first weeks after my 11 year-old dog died just 6 months ago now. The tears and the pain lessen of course (but haven't yet gone away, will they ever?), but never the love and the memory. I love your tribute to your dog, this LO reflects the love you feel for him, I hope someday I will be able to do the same for mine. I am so sorry for your loss!
I am crying as I type, I am so sorry for your loss. i am glad to hear that the vet sis everything poss. to help him and I hope that helps a little. He is beautiful!!!!!!
This is just so heartbreaking!! I know how much I love my furbaby and he is my heart too!! We get so close to our pets and it is a VERY sad day when we have to let them go. Sending hugs to you.. this layout is an awesome tribute to Dakota Jake. xxx- Sparkle
Tears here. Beautiful and touching page. My Golden died from Lymphoma a few years back. He was 13, the odd thing. He lived longer than they said he would and I think it was because our Huskie, she was 7, was ill and we didn't know it, but I think Max did. She actually started acting strange and they couldn't figure out why. Within two weeks she died. It was a brain tumor. Max made sure I was okay, then he left me too. Bless you for loving your baby!
sniff... you have made me cry! When my dog Buster died, I cried for about 6 months, for real. He died of bone cancer. It was awful. He was about 5 years old too. I now have a black lab that I thought of when I saw your picture and read your sad story. He is such a joy as my other 2 dogs too. This page is awesome, not only is it a beautiful tribute, but it is just stunning too!
This breaking my heart and I´m crying when I'm reading this, I'm so, so sorry for your lost!! I know your feelings so well because I have 2 dog and the little one of them is so special for me, she is my heart, she is my soulmate. They give us so much unconditional love that we feel lost when we lose our furbabies, our soulmates. I crying with you and sending my healing thoughts to you!!! This Lo is a wonderful tribute for him and I just LOVE it!!! The Lo is very, very BEAUTIFUL!!!! Many Hugs to you Terri!!!! /Suss
I have tears in my eyes-my heart and prayers go to you. Pets are so special. This LO is beautifully designed and so much love went into creating this LO. What a beautiful LO for such a beautiful Life. Great journaling! May another love come along just as special! This is most touching LO!
Oh my, I am crying just reading this. I am SO sorry for your loss! I have furchildren too and they are my heart too! again, I am SO sorry for your loss and Dakota was a beautiful soul, you can see it in his eyes....this is a wonderful tribute to him.
What a BEAUTIFUL lo this is! I am so sorry for your loss, Terri. We recently lost our precious kitty, and scrapbooking his life helped me through the bad times. I am proud of you for jumping right in.....I couldn't get started for several months. I was afraid I would "drip" all over the pages! You hang in there! God Bless you....Patty
This is so very beautiful, yet sad too but I'm sure it was therapeutic for you to make this lovely layout. My heart goes out to you in your loss. - we've been there too and understand.
This LO is amazingly stunning! I am so sorry for your loss and will say a prayer for you and your family. This LO is such a wonderful way to honor and remember Dakota. Wonderful job!
Wonderful picture of your beautiful dog. Like that you enlarged it to cover most of the page. I have been in your place once and am headed for a second time. My guy is going on 14. Heartfelt hugs to you.
So sorry to hear about you loss. Did he eat something poisonous maybe? I think you did a fabulous job with the LO and it definately shows how you were feeling.
SOOO BEAUTIFUL. I just lost my lab as well and still cry all the time. It's so hard and I know what you are going through. I miss my girl so much. Reading what you just wrote made me cry too. I haven't brought myself to do a goodbye page for her yet. Just doing all the happy stuff right now. Wonderful job. I can't stop crying!
Terri, so sorry about your loss {{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} What an absolutely beautiful tribute page...My prayers are with you...May you find comfort in the wonderful memories you hold in your heart...
Oh sweetie I am so sorry!! It is never easy to lose a fur baby, but especially when you are close, and it is so unexpected. Beautiful lo and tribute to your friend!
Terri...I feel for you. This was exactly what we went through when DD lost Bambi. No words can help but I'm sending lots of hugs your way. I can tell your heart is in this LO. It is stunning. A part of you is on this page. You're in my prayers for God to give you comfort.
I'm so sorry!! You did a great job on Dakota LO!! I know how hard it is. Were going threw it with our black lab Paris. Our lab has cancer and don't give her no more than 2 months. So I know how you feel. Your in my prayers. I'm SO SORRY!!!
Oh Terri, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a beautiful black lab that I lost right after moving back to LA and I was devastated. Since that time I lost two more of my dogs and know how heartbreaking it is. I will keep you in my prayers.
What a lovely tribute to an obviously precious member of your family.
I'm here if you need me, friend.
Love & blessings,
Deb
This is simply gorgeous Terri! I know how hard it is to lose aone of your best friends, it is the same grief as losing a human friend. You have given him a beautiful tribute here, and I think your vet would love to get a photo of this as well!
God's comfort to you! Such a beautiful tribute to such a beautiful canine. (I'm glad I got a good look at it before I read your description. It's hard to see good thru tears!) Anyway, Great job, it's just Beautiful!
My Dakota, my precious Lab, died sometime in the early AM Saturday morning of unknown causes. He got sick Sunday the 13th and when I took him to the vet Monday morning he felt sooo bad. He was put on medication and they did several tests but couldn't find what was wrong other than his neck and lymph nodes were hugely swollen, his blood count was 5 times higher than normal and he was running a temperature. He seemed to be a little better after a few days and the vet thought he might be able to come home, but then he took a nosedive, and Saturday morning the vet called with the bad newsl He was gone.
I have to give the vet, Dr. Moye, the highest kudos in trying to save Dakota's life. She had taken his file home with her to study it, and she was with Dakota until after 10 PM Friday night. She said he looked a little better then, but when she got back to the hospital Saturday morning he was gone. She cried right along with me when she gave me the bad news. Dr. Moye, I appreciate you so much, and thank you for trying so hard to save him.
The journaling reads, "I love Hunter and Colby, but you were my heart!"
I tried hard to make this lo look dark and gloomy, That's how I was feeling when I did it, but I wanted to honor his memory some way, and scrapping this lo was very helpful to my emotions (I cried buckets though, still am!). A few of the techniques used were crackle gloss, metal, holographic embossing, distressing inks, and a bunch of other stuff. The broken heart in the lower right describes my feelings right now. My sister described it well..."He was my heart!!"
UPDATE: The final tests came in and Dakota died from Lymphoma, a particularly aggressive cancer. Most of his symptoms were not typical of this so it had the drs. confused. One thing about it is that Lymphoma usually doesn't hit young dogs. Dakota was only 4 1/2 years old. Thanks for all your comments and condolences. They have meant a lot! TFL
