Here is my Patriotic layout for Lisa's (kaye222) Patriotic challenge.

It occurred to me after seeing a thread here on scrapbook.com about 9/11 layouts, that it would probably be a good idea for my kids to see that part of history in our family scrapbooks. When they grow older they will study the devastating part of it in their history books. But will they see the hope and the good from that tragedy. The pictures are from various memorials and stages of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The following is on the pull out journal tag:

September 11, 2001 – There are so many things I could say about this day - the panic, the horror, the sadness, the sheer unbelievability of it all. I watched the plane fly into the second tower, with my coworkers, on the TVs in the lobby. I walked back to my office and looked over DC and thought briefly if that could possibly happen here. Minutes later, my ponderings came true as I heard people screaming and running down the outer hallways shouting that the Pentagon had been hit. My office overlooked DC; the other offices overlooked the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery. How crazy when time starts slowing down and you can't believe what is actually happening.

At home, I watched both towers fall and thought, “What good can come of this?” But then I saw it. I saw policemen, firemen, rescue workers, people on the street, doing anything they could to help. I saw a nation come together in grief and rise in solidarity and prayer to the God they had forgotten merely the day before. I saw newscasters sharing uplifting stories on the news which so rarely happened on any normal day. I saw people give their lives so that others could be saved. I saw unselfishness and teamwork and then I saw the day the flag was raised at ground zero and dropped over the Pentagon… then I saw hope.
