Ridin’ waves- There’s nothing like waking up at Holden Beach and seeing those giant waves calling to you. You know you’re in for a great day at the beach. The older kids love riding the waves and getting pushed to shore. They could probably stay out there all day! But the little ones won’t let the great waves go to waste either. Sitting in the shallow water always brings lots of giggles as the water gushes around their little bodies. The adults sometimes get in on the action, but we mostly like to just sit back and listen to the soothing sounds of the waves crashing on shore.

Sand castles- Soft sand, great seashells and getting to build something bigger than you are...does it get any better than this. We never miss a day of sand castle building here at Holden Beach. We have built everything from giant castles with bridges and hot tubs, to sculptures of turtles and even a shark having a human snack. At this stage of life the adults do most of the molding, but the kids get love to help where they can and are so proud of their creations. We leave them on the beach until the next day and often see passers by taking pictures of our masterpieces.

Puddle jumpin’- At Holden beach there are tide pools that get left behind at low tide. The kids love them. Not only are they super warm from the sun, but they hold all sorts of treasures. Minnows swim slowly through the water and the kids are able to catch them and sea shells are easy to find. Small “rivers” branch off of the pools that the kids love to jump over. Each one is a new challenge to them. Even the littlest of kids love the tide pools. They can play in the water without fear of a giant wave knocking them over...this comforts the adults too.

The scenery- The scenery here at Holden Beach is beautiful. There are photo opportunities at every glance. The combination of clean, uncrowded beaches, great sunlight, and beautiful shoreline make for a picturesque location. We end up taking so many pictures of the beach, the dunes, great houses, and the marsh on the other side of the island that we quickly run out of room in our cameras. Something about seeing your family in settings like these make you want to snap away with your camera to capture them in God’s beautiful creation.

Family time- Our families live far apart, so yearly vacations at Holden Beach are the best way for us to connect with each other. It is the largest block of time we get to spend together and it is special to us all. For the kids it is a time to play with cousins and giggle and play together. For the adults it is a time to talk, share, and play too! We often have late nights in the beach house playing games and laughing at silly stories from the past. We are so grateful to Mom and Dad for planning this trip each year. It gives us something to look forward

to all year long.
