For those pictures you want in the album but don't aren't really that great, this is what I do, a flip chart style. Journalling can be done on the other side of the photos. I did one of these for my daughter's baby shower gift opening. I didn't want page after page of her opening gifts. So, I made a tighter chart than the one here. On the opposing page I printed out a list in order of the pictures of the gifts and from whom. So if someone wanted to look at all of them they could or just where they want or skip it entirely.
