Journaling inside Summer Sky 'envelope':

The Emancipation of Miss Kitty…
Or Freedom ain’t always what it’s cracked up to be.

This 4th of July started off much like any other - our family, out in the front yard, watching the fireworks with the neighbors, relaxing and enjoying ourselves. Little did we know that our silly old dog was going to go on an adventure that very nearly cost her her life. We can only assume that the repeated pops, whizzes, and bangs from our backyard neighbors shooting off of fireworks until long after midnight were just too much for her, because she made a break for it. She escaped the torture and found freedom for a short time.

Now, it wasn’t unusual for us not to see her in the morning when we go out to feed and water her before this, but it was unusual for us not to see her at all throughout the day. When we didn’t see her the third time we looked out there, we knew something was wrong. We searched the yard, but all we found were some paw prints in the mud next to a hole in the fence. Unfortunately, the pound was already closed for the day, so we had to wait until the next morning to find out if they had her. Thankfully they did. She had been found, exhausted and unable to walk, about a mile from our home shortly after midnight on the night of the fourth.

Apparently her one mile trek with bad hips, where she had collapsed and waited for rescue, plus 36+ hours on a concrete floored kennel was almost too much for her. She didn’t walk, eat or drink for several days. We spent countless hours sitting on the back porch with her, petting her, talking to her, letting her know how much we all love her. All of our friends even came by to see her Saturday night after Thai food. Everyone thought it was the end for our old friend. It was so touching; she was so happy to see everyone and just soaked up all the attention and ‘lovin’s’.

Her response was amazing. The next morning she finally ate and drank a bit. By the following morning, she was up walking – slowly and painfully, but walking. By the following Sunday, she was back to her old self. We were so relieved and thankful. It was truly a miracle and a testament to the power of love to heal.

Oh Kitty, we are so thankful that you still find love and joy in life and respectfully request that you not run away again big girl!

Journaling on pics in the mini file folder on right side page:

The new kid on the block, Joshua, brought out an enormous box of sparklers and shared them with Alyx, Kathryn, & Sarah. It was great to have all the kids outside waving sparklers and enjoying the night.

We sat with our neighbors, Mike and Judy, in their front yard where we could all put our feet up on their new planter bed to watch our town's firework show.

Thanks for looking!
