I had completely forgotten about this digital layout I created back in 2004. I discovered it this evening (Sept. 11, 2008) as I organized my digital images. I am sooo glad I found it. This was the first time my daughter ever played with Crayons. Funny, because JUST this evening, she and I were coloring some pages from the baby. Yet, I see these photos again and I am reminded that SHE was the baby not so long ago. * Sigh*

I used Adobe Photoshop to create this layout. Very simple.

Journaling: We knew it was coming. Claire was getting crankier by the day. She wasn't eating very much, was always thirsty and just didn't have the usual spark. And sure enough, we woke up Nov. 9, 2004, to find Claire was indeed, one sick toddler. She had a high fever, coughs and a nose that just wouldn't stop. Plus, nothing - and I mean nothing - soothed her. We decided not to take her to the babysitter's and Daddy and I worked it out so we could each take a half-day at work. I had the afternoon "shift" and by the time I came home at lunchtime, Claire was in a slightly better mood than in the morning. But not by much. Entertaining her wasn't easy. The child whose curiosity and imagination is limitless was not curious about anything that day. She got too warm reading books. She had no interest in her toys. Singing songs? No way. Playing with puppets? Puh-lease. It was about an hour after meeting with such resistance that in my desperation, I grabbed the box full of crayons from our office. The last time we introduced crayons to Claire, she thought of them as chew toys. But this time, I saw her little eyebrows flinch upward. Without hesitation, I grabbed a long piece of paper from my backdrop roll (normally used for portrait backgrounds, but this was an emergency) and taped it to the floor. Then, I dumped the entire contents of the box onto the floor and held my breath. Within minutes, Claire was laying on her belly, sprawled out on the floor, singing some unknown song as she doodled. She was even lifting one of her feet in the air and twirling it around as she scribbled in circles. It was the cutest, and most reassuring, thing I'd ever seen. ClaireBear was going to be just fine - and within days, her illness faded away. But not her curiosity for crayons! Now, is there a cure for wall art?
