Pics from our girls' first Trick or Treatin' Halloween this year. They were cute little roosters. 12x15 lo. Thanks for peeking!
- Made each pumpkin from 3 orange cardstock ovals, inked cardstock and edges, added google eyes and tops;
- Sanded edges of all photos;
- Ghosts were cut using QuicKutz die then chalked with black chalk;
- Made the large B from chipboard, covered in solid paper, then sanded;
- Cock A Doodle was stamped on vellum, torn on edges and chalked;
- Created bottom border by cutting squares in wide strip of black cardstock for the six windows and pop-dotted on top of orange-chalked yellow patterned paper for background, chalked black cs with white chalk for "ghostly glow." LOL Some of the ghosts and pumpkins were pop-dotted for dimension;
- All journaling is hidden behind the background cardstock. I created a pocket for the sheet of journaling in the back to hold it. You pull the tab on the top right of the layout to see the journaling;
- All ribbon was inked.

"Halloween 2005, Los Gatos, CA
The girls first Trick or Treatin’ Halloween night! Dressed in their cutest, unforgettable rooster costumes, Anna Liv and Mia Karine charmed the neighbors. This was the year they learned the proper etiquette of collecting those Halloween treats.
We took off relatively early that night, as soon as the skies darkened. We d9dn’t want to miss too many trick or treaters at our own door but there was no way only one of us could take the girls around. It was a quick change into their familiar rooster costumes. They’d already worn them twice before Halloween night – at Madisons’ & Braden’s birthday party and at the Gemini Crickets Halloween Party. The girls seemed to be quite comfortable in their costumes.
Mia Karine thought the offering of candy also meant an invitation to enter the home. Luckily, this occurred at only two of our neighbors’ houses. Next door, after grabbing a couple pieces of candy from the bowl, Mia Karine walked right past Steve into the foyer. This turned out to be fortunate because Betsy had wanted to take a picture of the girls anyway. At Tom & Sybil’s house across the street, Mia Karine quickly spied their cat running away after she collected her treats. Her immediate reaction was to run in through the front door past Tom, chase the cat and pet her, much like our own Debbie. We coaxed her back outside after she realized she couldn’t find the cat. After this last episode, Pappa held onto her hand a little more tightly.
Anna Liv was a trooper. While she didn’t seem to exhibit the same kind of enthusiasm Mia Karine did, she didn’t complain. She held my hand and walked around from home to home. She was quiet, careful and shy whenever we waited for the front door to open. Her neutral expression never changed the entire tour of homes. As we rounded the end of our street, we could tell that she was tiring. The sound of a plastic bucket dragging along the ground was our first clue…then, the slowing pace and finally, the lack of complaint as we headed home.
Before we headed inside, we took a few pictures of the girls with Mr. Bones, an annual visitor this time of year. The girls first met him last year when they showed off their pumpkin costumes. While they didn’t seem to mind him hangin’ out on the swinging bench on our porch, Mia Karine did not appreciate Pappa letting him put his bony arm around her shoulders. Crying and screaming, it was a quick few shots before we hustled them inside – just before the next trick or treaters stopped by.
After coming inside, I was quickly reminded of my own days of trick or treating in our neighborhood as a kid. The girls were very curious about what people were dumping in the big plastic orange buckets they’d toted around. Dumping all of the contents onto the floor of the kitchen, they carefully inspected each and every piece. The candy wrappers certainly made very interesting sounds. We decided to let them play until they actually figured out how to open one…and they did. So, they each had their first tastes of a chocolate candy bar – one of those mini Hershey’s bars. They did not seem very impressed with the mini chewy granola bars and quickly tossed those on the ground. It was very close to dinner time, so we only let them have a single bar. They weren’t too bothered by that as I think they were hungry after walking around the neighborhood.
After dinner a few trick or treaters stopped by. This fascinated Anna Liv and Mia Karine and they were quite curious to watch all the costumed kids come up to the door. After a few door bells ringing, they lost interest and soon remembered they were kinda tired. It was off to bed with no protest. They must have been really, really tired.
The rest of the evening, Truls played tennis at the Club. I covered the rest of the trick or treaters and by 9:30pm, it was over. October 31, 2005 Halloween"
