I felt the need to scrap this monumental event for my unborn child!

Journaling:
1863 President Lincoln issues the Emanicipation Proclamation freeing "all slaves in areas still in rebellion."

1955 - Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of a Montgomery, Alabama bus as required by city ordinance. A boycott followed and a bus segregation ordinance was declared unconstitutional.

1963 - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech to hundreds of thousands at the March on Washington.

1965 - President Lyndon B. Johnson stated in a speech: “But even if we pass this bill the battle will not be over. What happened in Selma is part of a far larger movement which reaches into every section and state of America. It is the effort of American Negroes to secure for themselves the full blessings of American life. Their cause must be our cause too. Because it's not just Negroes, but really it's all of us, who must overcome the crippling legacy of bigotry and injustice. And we shall overcome.”

November 4, 2008 - Barack Obama became the first African American to be elected president of the United States of America, proving that people are no longer judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
