perhaps the still portions are confusing the camera's sensors and it doesn't know what to focus on? I think the shot looks good like this, but I understand what you are hoping for. hopefully you will get more opportunities to keep trying for the perfect shot.
Great shot. I had the same trouble with DD's cheerleading pictures, A few times I got lucky and had really, really good lighting and they were clear, but usually the gym was just too dark for it to take quickly and something was always blurred. I think it's really cool like this, though.
I don't like the the action setting! It will give you the blur, if that's what you desire, but if you want stopped action, it will not do it for you. Just my humble experience. Try the fastest shutter speed your camera will give you. Try "normal" or "auto" depending on your camera.
My dd at a gymnastics exhibition at the basketball game halftime show. Any ideas why I could not get rid of the blur? I have a canon powershot S5IS and I had it set to action mode, but every photo has blurry limbs!
