SHCG: Let me begin by saying that I love the idea of making a book with the responses of the ?OW. I think that is a fabulous idea! Your haiku is fabulous and perfect for this time of year. I love the doodles and all of the little things that come together to make this an earthy, fun response. Super, babygirl!
SHCG: This is very exciting and motivating to make your own background paper and elements. I really like the TURKEY letters and stamped letters and florishes. The doodling is fun and is growing on me. The stickers are a little bright in color which is why sometimes I distress the colors by just using markers on the sticker and a marker blender pen. My only suggestion might be to put something in the center of the doodled flowers like maybe little tiny purple dots. It may connect them more to the stickers too.
SHCG: I love your haiku! I like the way the light fall colors and fancy fonts blend. It's the turkey and leaves on the bottom that stand out to me- they seem too bright and modern compared to the rest of the elements. I wouldn't have thought to create an album of QOW- this is very cool!
shcg: I totally love how you did this. I think the idea of a small BWC/?OW album is awesome (need to lift that idea for when I finally get down to doing them...). I have these same letters hanging around and keep being unable to find a usage for them. You have inspired me. The only thing that I don't like his how "reciprocated" is on two lines. The alpha stamps are a bit flourishy as Sharon points out, but I do think the font is fitting of the season. And I really like all of the additional doodles!
SHCG: I really like the lettering on this one. The doodling isn't all that bad. I agree with Sharon that you are being too hard on yourself!!! I also agree that it is sort of hard to read with the fancy lettering. I'm not sure the brighter colors on the sticker work well with the more subtle colors on the rest of the LO. Otherwise, I think this LO has a great design with how you laid out the word "turkey"
SHCG: Brenda, this is so cool and I agree with Sharon ~ don't be so hard on yourself. I love the idea of making a book of your QOW responses, that's awesome. I love the harvesty feel of this one and I love all the doodling that you added, they're so carefree and playful. I would just make the lettering a little darker so it's easier to read :)
SHCG - You're being way too hard on yourself in the LO thread, girlfriend. This is very nice. First off, your response to this QOW is WONDERFUL, thanks for taking us back to this QOW. It's quite cool you're going to compile your responses in this way, love how you're using this book to utilize the somewhat forgotten items in your stash, the harvest-y scheme & use of old stuff alone makes this way cool. The corner & flower doodles ROCK & I think the orange doodles, while you don't like them, add a touch of whimsy & charm. I think some of the words are a little hard to read because those letters stamps are so flourishy, are in a lighter ink, 2 words have letters stamped on that darker pp & 2 words are broken up (I think one has a dash at the end to indicate that, not sure). Not sure if you'd want to remedy that w/ additional doodling but if just the actual letters (sans all the font swirlies) were emphasized w/ a dark brown or green pen, I think that would help make the words more legible & ground this whole page amidst all those pretty, playful flourishes. Overall, you should give yourself some credit for the loveliness you already have here, though we all understand how it feels to have mixed feelings towards our own work. :)
This is for the SHCG BWC #22-Topic and Technique which was twofold--select one of our group's Quezztionzz of the Week, and create a lo based on the answer; and, use patterned paper with additional doodling.
I've always wanted to compile my responses into a mini book (5"x7") that used up scraps, old stash items, and other tools I don't otherwise get to use very often.
To begin, I chose the first Quezztion that Christy (cmeinstlouis) asked which started the ?OW tradition: 6 things I am thankful for using the letters in "turkey." I responded with a haiku.
I doodled the corner flourish and the flower stalk. The designs are not my originals, they are actually from studio g stamps. The (garish) orange doodles are all mine, though.
There is a journaling stamp left of the "k" that does not show up very well. It says, "I am thankful for... NOW!"
