I hope and pray that this doesn't adversely effect your lives... And that you will be able to continue to graze your cattle... It seems so ridiculous to me!
I understand and agree with your position - but I'm a bit confused - doesn't look like it's very good terrain for cattle and/or grazing? Beautiful for sure. You have such an eye for capturing the landscape and a wonderful way with words as well. THREE CHEERS
My heart goes out to you and others in your position, Judy. I've heard that about the new administration too and am not very happy about it. Especially since we (Alaska) are very much in favor of opening ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) for oil production. The environmentalists are very much against this, but studies have shown that the size of the area to be used is actually very, very small in comparison to the size of the refuge itself (more than 19 million acres); also, that the fish and wildlife populations would not be harmed by the potential drilling. Sorry - didn't mean to get up on a soapbox here - just wanted you to know that I understand a little how you feel about your situation. I appreciate your sharing this with us - and it is a LOVELY photo of your area. TFS :)
I had no clue that there was so much involved/at stake with the cattle & land. Interesting to be able to learn this sort of info I would never know about! Stunning shot BTW!
Judy your home is breathtaking, grazing the high lands is considered essential around here, or it would soon be overgrown and then no one could hike through it.
See these people that get on these high horse movements don't research enough about what they want to change. If they did they would realize half the stunts they pull do more harm than good.
I hope they don't restrict uses of these lands. Plus, the UN is pushing for taxes on animals that basically "contribute to global warming" through flatulence. What a joke. They are trying to get their foot further in the door.
If you are running for congress, Judy, you just got my vote!!! MANAGED if the key word and you described it perfectly. I can see shutting down the use of land up here being ruined by ATVs but not what you are doing.
This is just a small part of the beautiful place we call home. A lot of it is Forest Service land, which we lease from them thru our grazing association. Now that we will have a Democrat for President, and the Congress is primarily Democrat too, things may change as far as grazing these lands. The possibility exsists that they will bend to will of the enviromentalists who want no one to be able to do anything but hike thru these areas. They tell us that the cattle are detrimental to the environment and the wildlife needs it more. That is false, we are strictly monitored in our grazing use. Actually, the environment has been improved for the wildlife by the development of watering places where none have exsisted before. More water=more wildlife. When it is too dry, we have to reduce the numbers of cattle we run in our government pastures. We work constantly to control erosion, and avoid overgrazing so the desirable grasses and other plants are abundant rather than weeds, etc. So....We don't want them to do that-shut the public lands down to grazing. We can all use those lands, to hike, ride, hunt, graze cattle.
