SHCG: Wow! I love this, Sharon. You can not only rock the multiphoto layouts, but also you totally rocked this single photo layout. I love the colors you used. It really has such an heirloom quality that melts my heart. Your journaling is so powerful. The love of your family shines through and puts a bit of a lump in my throat. This is truly exquisite.
SHCG: I love your one photo lo's also! This may be a departure for you but you dod this well also. Your journaling is superb as usual and the pp's are gorgeous. Well done!
SHCG: Awwwww, what sweet journaling! :) This is really a stunning LO- I think the single photo is very powerful. I love the hearts and buttons below it- they add just the right amount of dimension to the page. Great job!
SHCG: What makes the holidays special are los like these, Sharon! The journaling is super sweet and heartfelt. Great textural coordinating pps and ribbon. I love the hearts and the cute button trail. Fab decision to add the rubons. I'd extend the already existing textural elements by adding thread through the buttons, and even a little bit of ruffled lace peeking out from somewhere. Also, a button center, instead of a brad, for the flower would make a nice complement and visual triangle. Although, I like the warm monochromatic scheme, I can see a rose pink vellum photo mat, instead of the big dark brown one, to accentuate the ribbons in the journaling block. Finally, when I first saw this page and read your remarks about not adding a title, I agreed. However, when I read your journaling, I really felt that even just a tab in the upper right corner of your journaling block that reads, Love Unconditional, is very fitting. All the departures you took in creating this lo really paid off, Sharon. Beautiful job on the challenge.
SHCG: This is so beautiful! Love the colors, the papers, the framing of the picture, the journaling (you're always fab at that!) and the hearts and little buttons! Great job :)
shcg: beautiful journaling and wonderful christmas memories. i would put a hint of green in it, but that is personal. it is great as it is. it is clean, siple and elegant.
SHCG: I love the colrs on this one!!! Beautiful journaling and inking!! My only suggestion is to maybe add some tiny bling in with the buttons to "jazz" up the bottom of the page. It is simply fabulous either way!!
SHCG: WOW!!! What an awesome response to the challange!!!! Love the simpleness of it and that paisly pp is just too pretty!!! The journaling is perfect and really captured your feelings about your family. GREAT JOB!!
This is my response to Amanda/Scrappin Kitty's challenge for Scrap Happenzz Critique Group to scrap what makes the holidays special & meaningful to you.
This LO is a lift of KimA's “Family” LO from twopeas. It's a departure for me in a few ways – I normally use more photos per LO, I don't usually use this much negative space AND I normally don't scrap pics this recently after the event (pic is from Thanksgiving '08 last month). BUT this challenge came up, I was inspired by my recent amazing family vacation, loved this pic I took of everyone, saw KimA's LO & ideas started flowin… so there ya go!
Most of the gorgeous Club Scrap cs used here is textured, the background & lighter cs w/ a great paisley pattern. The family quote in the journaling I found in sb.com's Resources section.
After considering various titles (“Family,” “Together,” etc) I just decided to go without one… putting a title didn't seem natural or necessary to me, I felt like the journaling & pic didn't call for one for me.
The ink around the journaling is gold, & I used some gold metallic rub-ons around the pic (hard to tell here) & put more around the journaling….the rubons were a birthday giftie from Melissa/Eat Sleep Scrap – thanks Mel! (And not intentionally, I think I may have some of Marlene's Monochromatic challenge still in my head!). Also, the right margin is wider IRL (got cropped off in the scan).
Journaling:
“What makes the holidays special to me is…
Remembering I'm a part of a very special family – my husband, parents, siblings, their spouses & their children. If I'm lucky, I am able to SEE all of them, too, for Thanksgiving or Christmas… At the very least I see SOME of them over the holidays & that is so special to me as they all live out of state.
When I'm with them, I know that I am loved unconditionally, for who I am already, not who I strive to be or who I used to be.
With them, I know I am respected & revered. I am appreciated!
With them, I know there are no judgments, there is no pretension, no negativity, no silly battles or selfish expectations. Only love, understanding, encouragement & sincerity. Even the rare occasions of friction are wrought with love.
With them, I am reminded of the genuine me, of staying true to myself & who I really am inside. They help me get past the distractions & stresses of my everyday life & remember what it is I truly care about in this life
With my family, there are genuine belly laughs! There is fun. There is love. There's DANCING, singing, eating, laughing, celebrating, talking, playing…! I of course have this in my regular life… but it is extra-special when it's with my family.
With my family, I know that I am valued! I know that because they show it to me, in many ways.
With ME, my loved ones know that they are loved, valued, appreciated, respected & encouraged as well.
‘Our family is a circle of strength and love, with every birth and every union, the circle will grow, every joy shared adds more love, every crisis faced together, makes the circle stronger.' - Unknown
This love, this unity together that my family shares carries forth throughout the year. Remembering that I am part of this family, this support system, makes everyday feel like a holiday. And every holiday together is so rich it fills us with love & positivity, enough to hold us over until our next meeting together.
I am so thankful for my family! We are so blessed to have one another.”
