I agree with you 100 percent. When attending the MN Vikings games with my mom, it annoys the P*** out of me that all the players don't stop & exercise proper etiquette. However, this is a really cool shot. The slight bit of fog really gives it an edge.
Cool shot! I totally agree about the anthem. When DD was a cheerleader, they all stood in formation with left hand behind their backs and right hand over their hearts.
This picture makes me sad! To think that even their coach hasn't taught them this! But, I am proud of your son for doing the right thing and for the other little guy at least trying!
Oh my! Yes, I did notice the lack of repsonse when you said the National Anthem was playing...very sad, but so proud of Uriah doing the proper and honorable thing :) Do his teammates not attend the same school as he?
I'm so proud to know that one school and one child has learned to show honor to our flag. Please let your son know, we are all very proud of him. This brings up something that happened this summer while my husband was campaigning for reelection to the Kentucky State Legislature. His opponent kept his hat on during the National Anthem and the prayer that followed during the Dedication Ceremony of the new Veterans Cemetery. Our county judge executive is the one that noticed it and he was furious.
Good for your son Lori! If kids have had a parent in the military (like my kiddos) they usually will stand and hold their right hand over their heart and take their cap off if they have one on. Many children's parents don't really think about the flag and what it truly stands for so the children don't know either. I really did not become aware of all of this (I did place my hand on my heart for the anthem though) until I met my dh and we are sure our kids understand the sacrifice others have made for us!
I am like Janice I am holding one hand behind my back trying NOT to say what I am thinking.....so I will leak just a little of it. Patriotism is taught or NEVER attained.
breaks my heart... OH they should stand at attention and honor the history and the past lives sacrificed for our freedom... "we" meaning many in this country are so failing to teach gratitude and honor to our children!!!! ok... I'll step down
GOOD job to your son who knew the right thing to do!!!
OH MY Desi I know just what you mean. at the last parade I went to as the flags would come by carrie by our retired military or who ever, I stand and put hand over my heart till they pass and then give them all a big clap and yeehaw. btu I noticed lots of people not even standing when they flag goes by. I started yelling yall need to stand and be proud of that flag. and after hearing me a few times they all started standing up. really irks me that they have such disrespect for the flag that give them such freedom
This pic was actually taken on the 13th. This is at the Indiana Ice game where our mite team did one of the intermission scrimmages. It was also boy scout night. I knew I would use a pic from this night as a POD but in taking a closer look at this photo I found it disturbing. I snapped this photo while the National Anthem was playing. Do you see anything wrong with this picture? Please tell me those of you from the states do and it's not just me. The boy scouts were on the ice holding the flag between me and the line of mites (just to the left of the photo). My DS is on the far left. So in using this for the mini, I ask myself "What do you mean" to most of the people I see in this photo...I've even panned through those standing in the back.
Where is the National Anthem etiquette?
To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.
**I had my DS look at this photo and asked him what you are supposed to do when the National Anthem plays. He told me exactly what to do then asked why no one else had their hand across their heart. He did see the one other boy but said he accidently got his hand wrong. I also asked DS how he knew what to do (not that I've never told him). He says he does this in school! Bravo for the school still allowing the Pledge of Allegiance to be recited daily!! Seeing DS in this pic makes me so happy and proud.....sniff, sniff!! =}
