The frozen Misouri River at Williston, ND. I took this as we passed over on the bridge as sunset was approaching. The River does have some open spots on it in places yet. A few miles from this spot is the confluence of the Missouri and the Yellowstone Rivers. It is truly breathtaking to see the Confluence, so much water, so much power. The Missouri played an important role in the history of the west as did the Yellowstone. When Loius and Clark made their discovery trip of the Louisisana Purchase, they spent a lot of time on the Missouri and ventured into the surrounding countryside. Not to far from the Confluence, Ft. Union and Ft. Buford served as military trading posts.
