Journaling: VE Day, Daddy was some where in Italy, I believe in the Po River Valley. But he was still a long ways from home for his unit would not return to Fort Dix until late August 1945. Daddy was now a 1st Sargeant with Anti Tank Company 339th Infantry. He had already received a Bronze Star and A Purple Heart for shrapnel in his back at Tremonsulio, Italy. The Docs removed some of the shrapnel but not all of it and until the day he died he had back problems from it. On this page is my fathers original Victory in Europe Medal and the unit Crest from his unit the 85th Infantry Division
