The cabinet was custom built by my carpenter. It's really not that hard to assenble, Cut the uprights to fit your space and what will be in it, then cut a whoe lotta shelves. Drill a lotta holes up and down the inides of the uprights and assemble. More tedious than hard. Very useful, too.
Yes, I do keep my patterned paper in there as well. I have groups for each color in one slot each. A couple of times I've kept an entire collection together even though they were various colors because I figured I'd use them together. I have sections for each color, another for cats, one for each color patterned paper, some collections. Then in the bins on the right side of the photo I keep scrap paper, one for each color. They're great because I can keep small pieces or pieces of 12 x 12 paper. Everything fits. I've made more things from scraps, so it's definitely worth keeping. Thanks for your comments.
Many thanks to you ladies for your kind words. My "paper bin" does inspire many a project. I was going thru a stack of paper the other day of pinks and black and white and found the entire Anna Griffin collection - 2 pages each! Hooray. Even when organized, you find things you didn't know you had.
Even tho I'm a little late responding, I wanted to thank you January ladies for commenting on my paper bin. I love just looking at it and then daydreaming all the things I want to do.
Amber, Thanks for your very kind words. It was very tough designing the space. I tried to make a few major decisions first, and then work my way down into details. I think the biggest thing to remember is that any design isn't wrong. It would just turn out differently. Sort of like a scrapbook page. And Teal, what do you mean addict? *I* am NOT addicted to scrapbook paper. (hahahahahaha) Well, maybe just a little. Don't ever take me on a tour at the Bazzill factory.
I am impressed! That is a great way to keep a less than organized person on track! And it is so important in his office, I am sure! Thank you for filling me in on the details, I have trouble sometimes with decisions and can see where I could be totally overwhelm when designing my 'perfect' space. You have done a wonderful job, and it is an amazing work room! You deserve it! I am so happy for you!
Amber
Yes, I designed this room. I didn't consult with anyone else. I just thought long and hard about what would work in this space. How could I use the room to its full advantage and in the most pleasing way. For instance, putting my desk area in front of the window overlooking my flower garden probably started the design. I looked at what I took out of my 4 foot wide closet when we "moved out" for the renovation, and I had loads of the plastic drawers but they weren't sturdy enough for the heavier items like punches. So I knew I needed loads of drawers. Cabinets to hide away extra supplies like print cartridges and Xyron cartridges, extra paper, etc. The paper bin was directly inspired by one just like it in my husband's CPA office. We came up with that idea years ago ... he's a pile person; I'm not. As new work came in and it piled up, how were we to tell what was there, when they came in, etc. It was only fair to do the earliest in first. And how high were those piles going to go? We designed our first bin then so the first person's work went in the first slot, the second in the second slot, and so on. Clients have differing amounts of paper so the shelves had to be adjustable. A write on surface between the shelves enabled us to write the client's name and date the info came in. Now I'm giving away a trade secret that helps keep him organized! That was the inspiration for MY paper bin.
This has got to be the Perfect set up for paper storage!!! Everything right there, insight, for quick access! It is so eye pleasing! You have done such a good job of planning your studio. Did you consult with someone on the plans? I can't remember if you designed this room? It is awsome anyway! I am very happy for you to have it! Enjoy.
This is my fabulous paper bin with adjustable shelves that covers the entire wall!! Three columns hold 12 x 12 paper, one column holds 8 1/2 x 11 (great when you have a whole ream), and the column to the right hold containers which house my scraps. I still need more shelves so I can divide colors a bit more. I store mostly by color but if a manufacturer has a collection, I do keep them all together under the major color. Extra shelves are stored on top.
