I always do a catch-all page each month for the miscellaneous stuff that I'm not doing individual layouts for. For this 2006 album, I chose to use a calendar theme throughout the year. This my miscellaneous May page, but I used it to journal about the several month long training process leading up to the Avon Walk.

Journaling: When Karen suggested that we think about doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago this year, I thought she was insane. Was I worried about raising the minimum $1800? Not really. Was I afraid to try walking 39.3 miles in two days? No. My main concern was sleeping out in a tent! But, I decided to do it. She had been convinced by her neighbor Mary, who talked her friend Shari into being her partner, so the four of us registered in early March for the June event and started fundraising and training. The fundraising was the easy part -- people were incredibly supportive, and I was able to exceed the minimum and raise $2504. Karen and Mary were able to do a lot of walking together, but Shari and I did most of our training alone, although Karen and I did visit each other a couple times to walk together. When I started, walking 6 miles made me sore for three days, but by late May, I was regularly going 14 to 16 miles at a time. Memorial Day was the last weekend before the event, so I went up north to stay with my dad and get in my last long training walks. I was on a 20 mile trek when I literally crossed paths with a black bear! By the end of the weekend, I was as ready as I was ever going to be.

Those are my mom's tulips outside our cabin. She's never there early enough in the spring to see them, so I took a picture.
