Tish....super layout.
What a beautiful story of your memories, of course they triggered mine! I got in the movies way after I was 14 for a quarter cause I was so little, they believed me! Yes, those were the good old days when it was safe to go somewhere by yourself and feel a bit of freedom! Love the way you put it together! FAVES!
OH MY Tishie you did a fantastic job on this challenge. it is jsut awesome. I remember alot of these times too yet it was not backi in the 40's lol as I was not even a glimmer in my mom and dads eye at the time lol btu beautiful description of your youth
This is for our leader of the Pixel Thread who issued a challenge to us to scrap something that we remember from back in our time, which in my case would be..ready the later 40's and early 50's. This is the old movie theater I used to love and go to faithfully!
Journaling reads: I have so many great memories of things I used to do as a young girl. It was hard to pick one thing to write about. some of my favorite things were paper dolls, Hide-n-Seek, dominoes and parchessi with my Grammie, and listening to the radio with her in her room as she listened to programs like The Hit Parade and Stella Dallas! I loved the old movie magazines and collecting pictures of some of my favorite stars, Natalie Wood, Audie Murphy, James Dean, Liz Taylor, James Stewart and of course ELVIS!
Back then, in the late 40’s and fifties, I would hop on my bike and ride 2 1/2 miles into town to go to the movies. Saturday matinee’s were always 14 cents, other times 25 cents. Today I think it is at least $7.00 to go to the movies and not many would ride their bikes to attend. It seems like there was always a serial which played each Saturday before the feature film. Some wonderful movies were made during this time period such as The Glen Miller Story, Gone With The Wind, Bells of St. Mary’s,,The Yearling, and Miracle On 34th Street. Films didn’t have ratings back then as there wasn’t any big need.
My parents separated when I was about five and my brother and I lived with my father, he would often take us to the movies evening’s to entertain us. I think this is where my love of film came from. Not only was I seeing wonderful stories on film, but I got to spend wonderful quality time with my daddy! We would even go to the cafe after the movies for pie and milk. Of course dad had coffee. Today, yes, there are some wonderful movies being made, but so many have nudity, violence and four letter words, that it almost spoils the movie. I am not a prude by any means, but still give me the days when I could ride my bike to the movies and not have to worry about being kidnapped, killled, or held for ransom! Give me the days when 50 cents would get you into the movies, get you popcorn, and a drink! GIVE ME BACK MY YOUTH!
