Journaling: My mom tells me that when I was 6 years old, I was very good at drawing. But that would not be a practical vocation, so I went into the sciences. In college, I majored in biology (med school?) and then changed to Industrial Engineering (coz I was failing Organic Chemistry). A 10 year career in Business and Information Technology and now a SAHM.
Would things have been different if I was encouraged into the arts? I started with photography when I was 16, scrapbooking at age 19...after I had my kids and had time, more photography, paper scrapping (1999) and now digital scrapping. In between, I have dabbled in bookbinding (I can make a 12x12 scrapbook that will last 100 years from cardboard, paper and glue), knitting, hand-drawn t-shirts, Chinese painting, and someday hope to get into jewelry and pottery. etc.
I have a need to create and it has to come out.
Would things have been different if my parents encouraged me otherwise? Yes, I definitely think so.
Instead of an artistic pragmatist, I would have been a successful pragmatic artist.
