I am feeling you on the gingerbread house frustration. I won't even go into it. This is a fantastic LO however. The title is awesome, I just love it. I'm wishing I had taken photos of our gingerbread disaster this year so I could lift this. Oh well, there's always next year. lol
Lol......I remember trying to help a friend once making a wedding cake...What a disaster that was...But nevertheless, it was Sweet!!
Your House certainly does look "good enough to eat"
LOL!! yes these are trickey!! next time buy some cream of tarter and make a paste..then cut small cardboard "hinges" that you will use the cream of tarter paste on to glue all the pieces of the house together with! let it sit overnight before you decorate! the cardboard of coarse is not edible but the cream of tarter is...give it another shot! LOL :P..really cute lo Jill!
*LOL* That is MY LIFE!!! But times TWO here! Each of our boys had the kit, and I was so frustrated by the time the whole process was over, I was screaming!! And then, they were not even THAT tasty!! Anyway, cute page and fun memory!! I'll need an entire scrapbook to record our "Gingerbread" experience!! :)
OMG, this is so cute! For my DD's 1st birthday, which is in December, I thought it would be fun to bake enough gingerbread houses for each guest to decorate one. So I baked & baked & baked little roofs & walls & of course they came out all lumpy & didn't go together quite right. But I guess it was a bonding experience for us all! LOL!
I have to laugh - I tried making one of these many years ago and it basically fell apart in our Florida humidity. So I can relate to your frustration! glad you didn't throw it, & bet it tasted yummy regardless of how it looks! LOL
My dd has made many of these in GS and school. No need to buy a kit. I just threw away the one she made in GS for Halloween. It lasted that long. They dont taste too good to eat unless you make the gingerbread from scratch. Anyway, I've heard of many people being frustrated with that darn kit bought in stores. Your description was so funny but understand the level of frustration-been there. Glad Superdad was there to save you both! LOL Great LO, it will be fun to remember how much fun it wasn't some day. LOL But now you have a new way to do it. Surely a local school would be happy to save you a few milk cartons for gingerbread house use.
Love this layout and narrative. I have no luck with gingerbread houses. I used to do them with my first grade class, just thinking about doing 20 of them stresses me out!
LOL Jill - I did this with the two oldest grandkids two weeks ago -- our's looked worse ... Cody said "don't feel bad Gamma, we'll pretend a tornado hit it" :+) LOVE your layout!!!
LOL great story....I heard those were a horror to put together. I actually forgot to do ours this year...but from the stories I've heard I think I'll use superglue instead of frosting to assemble it LOL Great lo!
Your story is too funny. We made one this year also that I have not scrapped as of yet. My sons and hubby put it together as I don't have the patience. I got to take photos! I love the title of your lo. Very cute!
I hate putting together gingerbread houses. It is something I will never do again. I think it is really cute. I love your layout. Great titlework, but not really the sadest ginger bread house ever.
gingerbread houses are ALWAYS frustrating, at least in my previous experience. I've learned that it's best to eat your way as you make the house. lol very cute LO though! gives me some inspiration to use my bracket paper!
This LO cracks me up. I have to tell you, my DH and I thought one of these would be fun, too. All I had to do was read the directions and go "oh, heck, no!!" We ended up throwing it away! Anyhow, love your LO.
LOL! Oh come on--was it really THAT bad? Our first one was a sight to behold, too..but three years later, they're looking a bit better. I'm learning not to add too much water to the frosting--and that they never give you enough, so I end up having to make some of my own! Don't give up, yet! (And dang those box pictures for upping our expectations). I was at Michaels for cookie decorating with my kids, and they had a gingerbread house there. One of the ladies said they ended up using hot glue to make it looks as nice as the box! LOL I love that you documented it. How funny!
Okay, this gingerbread house was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life!!! The darn thing fell apart so many times ... it was unbelievably messy too. I thought it would be so much fun and enjoyable and it was quite the opposite! And look at the darn thing!!! Dean came to my aid and told me to leave it alone and he would finish it. I think he was scared that I was going to throw it across the room ... lol. Anyway, I get a GOOD laugh out of looking at it now. I was really trying to get a good family tradition going .... NEXT!
