This is a 8x8 shadow box that I made for a friend. The picture is of her niece Torri who died in a car accident 3 years ago in Massachusetts. When they see a butterfly they think of her. The quote by Torri says: “Here's my heart, treat it with care, Love me each night, even when I am not there.”
This frame was black and I painted it chocolate brown then applied crackle medium then mixed a couple of colors to get the creamy look that I wanted and I also added some MS antique gold glitter to add little specs of a shimmer.
The paper is a cream colored bazzill texture size up. I used a technique I learned from Tim Holtz 12 days of Christmas 2008 Day 11 http://timholtz.typepad.com/my_weblog/12_tags_of_christmas_2008_1/. I created the lo of the picture and quote in Word, the photo I edited at www.picnik.com. (this is a great site for cool easy effects) I made it a sketch then raised the fade to bring more of the color back to give it a soft watercolor look.
The butterflies were found from a clip art site, I printed them on transparency from PS to get the size I wanted. Then used alcohol inks and applied the colors lettuce and eggplant and blending solution, then added gold, purple, and green glitter glue to both butterflies. I used brads for the center of the butterflies and applied the gold paint to the tops to give it more of a pop. The butterfly trail I handstitched.
The small flowers are tiny lavender primas, I glued them down then used my piercing tool to attach the brads. I also used gold glitter paint to the brads.
