Beautiful tribute to a good dog. As I said before, I'm so glad Trevor could spend his last days in a home where he was loved and could love back. People ask me all the time about the decision to stay with their dog when the vet is putting them to sleep. It is a very personal choice. I wanted and needed to be there for Lucky, but some people just cannot handle it. I'm glad you all had the chance to tell him goodbye. Lucky also lost the use of his hindlegs, so I know exactly what your mom had to deal with. I'm glad she has another dog to love now.
My mom's dog Trevor. He was a rescued dog. He had been in 2 abused homes. The first one kept him out in a small pen in all weather. He was deathly afraid of thunder and lightning- he had to take pills. The second home kept him in the garage all the time. He just wanted to be loved. He hated men and people with hats and sunglasses. He was terrified of brooms and newspapers. He was probably beat with them. He was a sweetheart to all of us and especially my son Drew. His hind legs gave out one day in January 2005, he couldn't walk at all. We did all we could for him. I took him to the vets but could not stay with him, I just couldn't do it. I hugged him for mom and told him how much I loved him. We all will see him in heaven someday.
