Such a great story!! We have an artificial tree too..and we've had it since the mid 90's. We too store it in its original box! It's still strong and full and we still get compliments as to how beautiful our tree is...
You're right, it is a chore to put together, but each year when we take it down, my dh strings each bunch of branches together to make it easy for the next year. The only thing I miss is the smell of a real tree..but that's all! I don't miss the needles and having to water a tree..Congrats on being able to find the rings....and I hope you have another 17 years with your beautiful tree!

This is the story of our Christmas tree. The journaling reads: We bought our beloved Christmas tree back in January 1992 at Kmart in Port Jervis, New York. We fell in love with our tree the moment we saw it…it looked so real for an artificial tree. So when it went on sale after Christmas we bought it. I think we paid $100. People who visited were always surprised that it was not a real tree. The color was perfect, the branches nice and full. It was gorgeous! Granted…it was a pain to put together for each cluster of branches had to be inserted in this ring. There were 6 different color coded levels and between 6 to 10 clusters of braches for each level. It was quite a chore, but well worth it. As the years went by the plastic rings that held the branches grew weaker and weaker. Pat managed to work his magic and rig it so the branches held. We knew it was just a matter of time before it broke for good. Each year we'd look for a new tree…but we never saw one that compared to our tree. Finally Christmas season 2008, the ring gave way, crumbled in Pat's hand and was beyond repair. Pat tried to fix it, but nothing he tried worked. We knew the time had come for us to bid farewell to our treasured tree and get a new one. The kids were devastated. They didn't want a new tree…they wanted OUR tree. Now even though we've has this tree for 17 years…we had it packed in the original box. So I did a search online for Hudson Valley Tree Company. I knew it was a long shot that I'd be able to contact the company and that they'd still sell our tree. Well lo and behold when I Googled the company the first link that came up was “do you remember Hudson Valley Tree Company”? Turns out a guy that worked for the small, family owned business that has since closed - now owned his own Christmas tree company with trees that just like ours! Christmas in America was the name of his company. His website went on to talk about Hudson Valley trees and how lifelike they were. The next day I called, spoke with a very sweet woman. I told her my story and what the problem was. Turns out they still sold the rings for our tree! I was so ecstatic, I thanked her over and over again. I couldn't wait to tell Pat and the kids the good news! The rings were delivered the next week and they fit like a glove. So that year we once again lovingly decorated our Christmas tree for its 17th year….as beautiful as it was in 1992
