Journaling Reads: The most oft-sung melody in history: the bond between a mother and her baby. We hear it every spring, here in the country, on our farm. For my own children, the song never gets old and the tune is new each year. Growing older, I also never tire of it and learn new notes every time, as the animals jealously guard their offspring and at times, have died for to protect them. It is a love that one cannot imagine until it is experienced. A cat purrs as never before when she is cleaning off her newborn kittens. Mama Dog thumps her tale the hardest when she is proudly showing you her puppies, as if to say, “See? Can you believe it?” Bunny Mommy makes soft sounds as she is nursing her little ones, and the good ol’ mare tosses her mane as her hours-old foal trots beside her when you visit the pasture. She looks at you as if to say, “Look at my strong and beautiful baby, yours is nearly a year old and the poor thing still can’t walk.” Each farm mommy is convinced she is the best mother and has the most beautiful baby in the world. And she’s right. {Spring, Every Year}
