Hi Melanie!
Yes, I just lightly sanded the pre-painted surface and then coated it 2 times w/ plain old Acrylic paint (Delta, Americana, etc). The pre-painted surface was pink mainly, 2 shades, so I did have to do 2 coats. TFL!

Thanks for pointing out that a designed lunch box would be sanded. Never would have dawned on me. :) Did you just use acrylic paint?
Very cute--I bet she loved it. :) Melanie
I made this partially finished mini lunchpail album for a "Not-So-Secret-Sister" Swap. I left it unfinished on purpose but included all the elements & embellishments my NSS sister would need to finish the lunchpail & the album. I figured she was a SB'er so she would enjoy finishing it herself & have a theme that was useful to her. The dimensions on this lunchpail are approx. 5.5" x 3 7/8" x 2.5". I bought it at a dollar store. It already had a painted design on it so I sanded it first then painted it. I used Mod Podge to adhere & seal the PP which is from the SEI Spring line.
The album inside is 11 pages (both sides) glued to form an accordian album w/ approx. dimensions of 5" x 3".
