This is totally and completely awesome Sue. Now I'm wondering why none of you were smiling too! Beautiful journaling, lovely layout --- and it IS therapeutic to scrap a parent we've lost ... I intend to do more of Dad.
What a wonderful page.....the journaling is just wonderful. The photo is truly priceless and I too, wonder what was going on to make you all look so sad!!!! I am so glad that you wrote this down, for all the years to come and for your own children.......!!!! Just beautiful!
What a beautiful mystery. I am touched by the journalling, and the photo of your lovely mother. I love that you chose soft colors to go with the b&w. Great work.
Wow - this is awesome. Soo many questions we have when they are gone and no answers to be found. I hate that too. I always stress to friends to ask questions now of their parents before they are unable to. I love this...
Amazing story, just love it and how amazing was your mum. She must have been so strong to be able to do a journey in those days pregnant and with 3 little ones, I can understand why she was looking sad. Fabulous heritage memory for you and I love the way you hae adapted to paper to make that frame, beautiful, stunning LO.
This is just wonderful. And the story is very heart warming. Your mum must have been an amazing lady. You have done more than just a LO with the photo. You have created a memory.
Wow, a lovely LO and fantastic journalling. Your poor mum looks exhausted in this pic as I am sure she must have been. At least you have this pic to treasure, and you have created a beautiful LO to go with it.
Completely beautiful, I absolutely love this!! Awesome journaling. I have a similar photo of my dad and 2 aunts - they look almost the same, same faces. Apparently the photographer was really mean!! One of my aunts wouldn't stop crying so he took her out of the photo and the rest of the kids got scared!
The flowers are gorgeous! Beautiful photo even though no one was smiling and I guess the photographer just didn't ask you all to say 'cheese' that's why :) I love looking at LOs with wonderful journaling such as this. TFS!
Hey Sue, This is really good, no great. Nice LO, AWESOME journaling. It was very heartfelt. Love the colors, the scalloped doiles are so pretty and the flowers are beautiful. Its an awesome tribute to your mom as a woman willing to put up with and sacrifice a lot to keep the family together at this stressful time.
Very cool lo, what an interesting story, don't you just love it when you show someone your lo that you are so proud of and instead of just saying oh that is so pretty, they have to say it is WRONG!!!! lol Like what is one year???? I have several hertiage photos and I have came to think that the reason no one smiled is because they didn't have good teeth????? Cause NO ONE is smiling in any of my hertiage pictures either????
WOW I just read the first line and it gave me the chills!!! Already a touching LO and I did not read it yet!! Loving your flowers and what a BEAUTIFUL picture to have!!! Stunning!!!
What a wonderful letter to your mom. My first thought when I saw the photo was, That photographer was not very inspiring! I am so enjoying these vintage pages you are posting!
I wish you were here to talk to. I would ask you why no one is smiling in this picture.
I have so few pictures of my childhood that this one intrigues me. We all look so melancholy, almost sad. But there is strength and determination in your eyes. You had courage and conviction to follow your dreams.
We were about to embark on the greatest of all adventures. And here you were with a three year old, a two year old, a one year old and pregnant on top of that. How you convinced the military to let you travel is a mystery. You somehow convinced them that you were only 7 months pregnant instead of 9 months. Or at least that is the story I heard, many years after you were gone.
I think this was taken in 1955, and before the year was up we found ourselves living in Italy. Housing wasn't ready so the military set up tents on the beach. How I wish I could hear the experiences we had. Finding this out as an adult was indescribable.
And so our journey began, and though you would not live to see it completed, know that your children, all 7 of us, treasure our childhood.
Thank you so much for having an adventurous spirit. Without it, we would have missed out on the greatest adventure of our lives.

When my sister saw this she said it was 1956, but I'm not going to change it, that's close enough!
Most of the flowers were from a disassembled flower arrangement left over from a wedding centerpiece. hehee.. hey ... whatever is available ...right?
Oh ... I'm the blond child on the left!
ALSO - I was thinking - you know how the military takes pictures of anyone going overseas - perhaps this was taken right before we left, or right when we arived and were tired from the flight. Remember they had propeller planes back then, not jets. (heheee.... scary thought these days!!)
