I described this pair and the calf last night in the challenge thread. The cow on the right had just delivered this little calf. The other cow was in labor herself but she was trying to steal this calf at the same time. We spent a good two hours making sure the right calf ended up with the right cow. This little heifer calf got up while she had barely been cleaned off and stumbled along after her mom. The "calf napper", followed licking the calf every chance she could. The real mom was not real aggressive about keeping the other cow away. DH and I did get ahold of the calf and put her in the cab of the truck and then tired to chase the unwanted pest cow away to have her calf. We finally got them seperated and the calf with the right mom. We made the rest of our rounds and checked this pair again. By now the "calf napper" was really moving along laborwise, with her waterbag exposed and she was still trying to steal the calf. We finally grabbed the calf again and put her in the truck. Her mom wandered off and we sat and waited for crazy cow to finish calving. What a douff! She stood forever without even trying to push the calf out, even though it's head, front legs, and a large part of the torso were hanging out, the calf struggling. Finally it just plopped out! We sat and watched to make sure she was going to clean and claim her calf. Then we went and found the other cow to reunite her with her calf. This morning, each cow had the correct calf. Thank Goodness!
