This lo is actually a redo of an older layout I did a while ago, for a heritage challenge at another site. I do a lot of redo's, always trying to improve my older layouts. ;-)
journaling: My grandmother Jacomina was born in Axel, Zeeland, on September 30th 1899, as the daughter of Maarten Marijs and Jacoba Pieternella van der Velde. Unfortunately, her parents died when she was still a little girl, and she was sent to an orphanage.
While I was growing up grandma told me lots of stories about the orphanage and they weren't all pleasant. She hated that place! She was counting the days until she was 21 years of age and old enough to stand on her own two feet. I believe she left the orphanage on her 21st birthday in september 1920.
This picture was most likely taken shortly before she left. It shows her wearing the orphanage uniform. It wouldn't surprise me if she burned it, that late summer of 1920!
