rue Jambon Journalling on the left page: We exited the Tuileries on to rue Rivoli and we were looking at the map to decide our next destination ~ the itinerary had been jumbled now - we were trying to get our bearings when I heard John say, "rue de Jambon?" When I asked if I had heard him right he said yeah, he thought that's what the street name was; which was actually Cambon, then I repllied with, "Why not, Paris can have a street named Ham if it wants to!"
I altered the street sign sticker to say Rue Jambon Captions on the photos: A Greek church we saw along our walk. A decorative balcony at Place Vendome
Place Vendome Journalling: In the center is Vendome column built between 1806-1810. It was put in place to commemorate Napoleon's victory in Austerlitz in 1805. The stone core of the column is wrapped with bronze plates that are made from the 1250 cannons that were captured during battle. A bas-relief on the column depicts the army's conquest. During the siege of the Commune in 1871 the column was torn down, but restored three years later. Captions on the right page: A royal square that was created in 1698. The area is now home to famous jewelry stores, the Ritz hotel, and oppulent homes of the affluent. / A likeness of Napoleon as a Roman emperor; holding Liberty in his hand, stands a top of the monument.
