April 30th is our national Holiday. That was the birthday of a
former Queen, and although she died long ago, it’s still the the
day we celebrate “Koninginnedag”, Queens Day. We like to go
to the town’s center that day. At 8 or 9 AM the day starts with
a balloon contest, kids let ballons fly and the one that travels
the longest way wins. Sometimes ballons are found as far as
France or Austria. Then there are all kinds of games for the
kids, and of course there’s a “Vrijmarkt”. That’s a kind of Flea
Market. Everyone is allowed to sell all his old stuff at the
sidewalks. It’s a lot of fun seeing the rubbish some people
gathered, and we always find some toys for Steven
