The USS Arizona was sunk and because of the position it was impossible to remove the bodies of our brave heroes and so they are buried beneath the water in the ship.

Elvis Presley loved Hawaii and made many movies in Hawaii. At one time he was flying low over Pearl Harbor and asked what the ship was that was under the water and was told that it was the sunken USS Arizona. He wanted to know where they memorial was, why was there no memorial.

When he was told there was not one he personally took it upon himself to make sure that a memorial was elected. He gave a benefit concert to start the USS Arizona Memorial fund which then received money from government and other private sources.

I just learned that a memorial and memorial fund were already underway, but Elvis had a benefit performance and contributed the money to the fund, but it was not his original idea. Someone also emailed and told me that her father, who was in the Navy contributed to the fund.

These pictures were taken from Pearl Harbor Navy Base.
