there is a long story behind the "gift" my nephew gave Grandma and Grandpa for their 50th anniversary.

the journaling on the left page reads:

Doug swore he would never tell the milkshake maker story publicly, but leave him in the back room around the watering trough long enough and it's going to happen.

The background story: Christmas 2007, one of the grandkids decided they wanted Grandma Bonnie to make them a milkshake. Grandma had somebody go get the ice cream and she rolled over to the counter in her rolling chair and plugged in her milkshake maker. Now imagine, 3 or 4 teenage grandkids sitting around the kitchen table; Grandma has her back to them; she puts the glass with the ice cream between her legs to hold it steady and proceeds to mix the milkshake. The 'milkshake maker" starts humming and Grandma moves it up and down to make sure all the ice cream is blended well -- the giggles start. As the giggles get louder, more grandkids gather round. Pretty soon, every kid at Grandpa and Grandma's wants a milkshake. Grandma finally catches on and everyone laughs until they can't breathe.

A few months later at a family get together at Doug's house that included friends who didn't know the story, Doug proceeded to retell the story...in a manner which only Doug can tell it and he included demonstrations of what the grandkids seen that night. Everyone laughed until they just about peed their pants!!

Fast forward to June 2008 - Doug and Kayla's wedding.......yes they got the milkshake maker as a wedding gift along with a poem that only Grandma Bonnie could write!! Doug vowed to return the favor, which he did. He regifted the milkshake maker to Grandpa and Granmas as an anniversary gift. After dipping into the watering trough and working up his nerve, he retold the milkshake maker story to everyone at the dance, with microphone in hand, as Grandma was given the seat of honor in the middle of the dance floor while she unwrapped her "special'" gift.

note** - I was given a copy of the poem Mom wrote for Doug yesterday and will be including it on the second page of this layout.

the journaling on the right page reads:

Grandma's Poem for Doug and Kayla's wedding

I'll skip a generation and pass this on to you,
As there seeems to be a passion for what it's meant to do.

It brought a lot of laughs as you told us what it was,
When Granny made the MILKSHAKES that all the grandkids love.

SO

When Kayla thinks YOUR slipping and you think it's only her,
Just get this out, make a shake, "to really cause a stir".
One caution that I leave with you, "don't sit it on the chair.
The glass may break, the blades are sharp and you would need repair.
