Yes, this is a rattlesnake. He and I met up on the road one afternoon this week. He really blends in with the gravel and soil, doesn't he? When I encountered him he was stretched out flat. As he started to feel threatened by me moving to photograph him eventually he coiled up. That photo did not turn out too well, he was partially in the shade of my pickup by then! He escaped the tires of my truck and slid away!
