This is my first diaper cake (and probably my last) that I put together as a surprise for my friend's first baby shower. She is having a girl whose nursery has a butterflies and garden mural painted on the walls. The topper is quite a departure from what I initially envisioned which was a stuffed dog with butterfly wings. My friend is a proud mama to her two furbabies. In the end, I decided on using the leftover ribbon spool to stash the last three diapers and as the base for the top layer. Then, I tucked in some tulle and pacifiers that were on the new mom's gift registry, and stuck on a felt butterfly and flower rhinestones. The ribbons were from Michael's dollar bins. The pearl strands are also from Michael's and I added on as an afterthought. I traced a plate onto chipboard for the cake base and glued pink paper onto it. The diapers are layered around Johnson's baby powder and a 5oz Gerber Nuk bottle that were both on the new mom's gift registry. I didn't realize I bought patterned diapers until I opened the packgage. I also rolled up 5 short sleeve and 3 long sleeve Gerber onesies that were on her registry, too. They are hidden within the inside layers. This cake will also serve as a game for the guests who will have to guess how many diapers are in the cake. The answer is 76.

(Oops, I see I'll have to fix the pearl strand around the base.)
