"Are you in real prison for being a pretend criminal?"

My brother is my boys favorite cousin. He is always willing to play and goof around with his little nephews, and usually it is hard to tell who has more fun, the kids or the grown up.

It is a real treat to get him to read a book for the boys, cause he is a professional actor and he acts the characters out of the books with a lot more enthusiasm than we, their parents do, and best of all is to get him to read "Yukk! Did you just fart, Frodo?" because the book is full of all kinds of farting and my brother finds them as funny as the kids do, so the reading can turn into a real fart-fest!

But this actor thing is hard to understand for a 5 year old, because the other day I was flipping through channels on our TV and my brother appeared on screen and I didn't realize quickly enough that the TV-episode that was being shown was an episode where my brother is playing the role of a man that gets arrested for murdering someone... not really a show for kids... but my boys caught the part where he gets arrested and they totally freaked out, especially my older boy, and he wouldn't calm down until we had called my brother on the phone and he heard from his cousins mouth that he had just pretended to be a criminal and that he was not a criminal in real life, and that this was all just pretend for entertainments sake.

But this bothered my boys quite a bit, and it took them a while to calm down and buy into this "pretend criminal thing" cause obviously their cousin could be pretending, but the cops looked really REAL and they might not know that their cousin was pretending! So I just had to do a LO about my brothers work, and his relationship with my boys and how worrying it can be for a kid to not totally understand how TV/Real life works ;)
