This is my cousin Kim's son. He is a week old now, but is three days old in this photo and had just woken up from his first nap at home. He was so bright-eyed and alert. I cropped the photo tight and love this little shot of him. I can't believe he's just the size of her two hands. Little ones grow so fast. I forgot they could be that small.

Kim's mother and my mother are just 11 months apart and Kim and I are the first-born of each. We have always been close. When we were growing up, we promised each other that we would have kids at the same time so that the next generation of cousins would be close as well. For a long time, it didn't seem like it would happen. Lots of road bumps, as life is. But now, at age 40, both Kim and I are mothers of newborn sons, just 4 months apart, and we live in the same city for the first time in more than a decade. Indeed, 2009 has been a great year for our family. And now both sisters are grandmothers, so everybody's happy, lol.

This is my first layout using negative space. I so admire everyone else's negative space layouts, but I can never seem to do one. I always fill up ALL the space on my pages. I had to resort to a scraplift and went to patriciarodriguez's gorgeous page, My Sunshine, for help. I already had this cute die-cut Crate Paper, so it was a quick and easy layout to do. I used a blue zig to doodle the faux stitches, a fun trick I learned on this site. Thanks for looking!
