Well! Haha! I had fun last time creating my first digital LO using my Adobe programs. I wanted to do it again, and I wanted to make a magazine LO, and I think I went all out!

This LO is about the bouquet of flowers Justin sent me for my hard work with job hunting. Well, kind of. I took the pictures, and then just started typing. The journaling actually describes my huge job hunt saga.

Journaling reads:

(INTRO)
Job hunting is an activity not unfamiliar to Lauren. Beginning in August 2008 using monster.com and careerbuilder.com, Lauren applied for nearly 70 jobs in Justin's state, Wisconsin. With no luck for months, she eventually took a temporary position in the Kansas City area, simply to gain post-graduate experience for her resume. With that position winding down, Lauren is back at the job hunt, and more serious than ever. Lauren revamped her resume, created an entire job interest packet, and added a graphic design feel to all of her work. For weeks, she researched companies located in the Madison, WI, and Rockford, IL, areas to narrow her search of companies she would in
particular enjoy working for. She mailed several packets to prospective companies, leading to a handful of compliments and positive feedback. And the boyfriend, Justin, also helps Lauren with networking, resume-building, and critiquing. In August 2009, though, he wanted to reward Lauren for her persistence and hard work with job hunting. With a pink floral bouquet.

Lauren and her mother, Susan, sat on a couch covered in dog hair at a neighbor's house on an afternoon in February 2009. The neighbor, Pat, explained the training for acquiring a Physical Therapy Assistant degree and a Physical Therapy degree. Pat raised her voice over her two Welsh Corgis to make the comment that Lauren would be a good therapist.

After seven months of hunting for jobs in Wisconsin using internet job boards, Lauren felt that her degree and her efforts were at a standstill. “With the sudden economic crisis right after I graduated college, journalism and advertising jobs were in short supply. But I always ran across openings for jobs in healthcare,” said Lauren. She asked Pat, who worked with insurance for a therapy company, if she could had advice regarding physical therapy and a change in direction.

Physical therapy appeared to be the obvious choice, given her concern for her own body, love for exercise, and previous experience as a patient with a therapist. Something, though, was missing. “I love art, and I like being creative, and of course, writing. On the GRE, I received the top score possible on the writing portion of that exam. I definitely excel in that area. And I love writing. I don't know. Is medicine really for me?” Pat, again, helped Lauren answer these questions. The following week, Lauren and Pat spent an afternoon driving across Kansas City, meeting with individuals who could talk to Lauren about job hunting and physical therapy.

The first meeting was with DeeDee Naumann, with SERC Therapy of Raytown, regarding Lauren pursuing an associates degree as a PTA, or enolling in PT school. DeeDee shot down the possibility of becoming a PTA, explaining that PTs get paid much more, and that Lauren “carries herself like a PT...not a PTA.”

Following the meeting with DeeDee, Lauren and Pat met Dr. Jerry Lampe at Panera in Independence. The three sat for hours, talking over coffee, about Jerry's ventures with the Mid America Balance Institute. He explained that his new business was a diagnostic clinic for testing balance disorders, but lacking in process and organization.

Off she went. Two weeks later, Lauren started work for ‘MABI' as the vaguely-titled ‘Coordinator' to coordinate patient flow, patient records, marketing, billing, physician communications, and more.

While this job gave Lauren much of what she desperately needed - post-graduate work experience, a stronger resume, and a broader array of professional skills - Jerry and Lauren knew that this was only temporary.

Currently, Lauren is back at job hunting. After months off because of her work with MABI, Lauren undertook a major restructuring effort starting in July 2009. She reworked all her tangible materials, while she also sought and developed unconventional, and presumably effective, methods of finding jobs.

After receiving possible leads from two companies through a ‘prospective' job search, including a president of an advertising agency explaining that she was so impressed with Lauren's job packet that she will save her name for future openings, Justin knew he had to be a gentleman. After months of busily working toward achieving her goal, even though not reaching it yet, Lauren received a bouquet full of pink roses, carnations, and lilies delivered from her local floral shop, Kamp's flowers. “She deserved it!” said Justin. "

I used Photoshop and InDesign here. All I did in Photoshop was use the 'soft light' blending mode on the flower pics. The rest of this LO is all InDesign. Document presets are 11x17" with .125" bleed all around.
