Dear Gerry,
Your future can be as bright as you want it to be.
Just some thoughts from your 50 year old self.
-Don't be so serious all the time, learn to laugh a lot, especially at yourself and life in general.
-Don't ever quit, go down swinging
-Work on getting a scholarship for school or you'll have to go into the military.
-If you go into the military, save every dime and take as many college courses as you can.
-Drink to be sociable, not to get drunk.
-Take a self-defense course, like jujitsu
-Never get into a car with someone you just met, no matter who they know or how bad you need company.
-Get your real estate license, it will come in handy
-Don't read trashy novels, read Jane Austen instead
-Take every dance lesson you can, you'll stay busy doing something you love and stay in shape
-You won't meet the man you're going to marry til you're 30. So don't waste your time hoping for it sooner- use the time to learn Chinese cooking.
-go to that different religious service you've been wanting to visit
-Make all A's in school, you can if you want to. It will be worth it.
-Take care of your hair, skip the perms
-Skip the wedding. Elope and honeymoon in Colorado, better yet, use the money to put a down payment on a house.
-When you get the chance to buy a convertible, buy the Mercedes
-Get marriage counseling early in your marriage, it will save a lot of arguing and unhappiness later.
-Never use the bosses' printer for personal stuff
-Don't wait to move to Arkansas, move the first moment you can.
-Don't wait to move out of Arkansas, move the first minute you can.
-Make a plan, have an escape for those times when you love patience with the kids.
-Stick to your convictions on child-rearing, they will pan out in the end.
-Never, never, never get your tubes tied
-Never, never, never let a doctor bully you, expecially about procedures you don't want.
-get off the cokes. Drink water and watch that waistline for your health's sake.
-Don't let your girls watch all those romantic movies, it will put ideas in their heads
-Start keeping a journal the minute you find out your are pregnant.
-Invest in a really good camera, even if it means going into debt or going without
-make time to sew more for your girls
-get your kids into 4-H as soon as possible
-Find a homeschool coop and get involved as soon as possible, make it easier on yourself
-Spend the time to train your children well when they are small, you'll reap the benefits when they are older.
Put some money away for travel every month.
-Put some money away for children's college every month
-Write that book. Write a little every day or at least every weekend
-Go outside on every cool day.
-Always grow a garden
-Always grow tomatoes
-Get enough rest every day
-Take a day trip every week with the children
-Always have your camera with you
-Never give up a dream
-Learn to live every day
-Sing every day that you live
