I didn’t find out about your crush on xxx until May. It came out of nowhere. You hadn’t talked about him all year. Apparently xxx and you had been passing “love notes” since February but I wasn’t informed about this until the day of field day in the middle of May. Since there were only a few weeks of school left, I chose to ignore this fact of civil disobedience but asked you to bring a few home so I could “monitor” the content. To my relief, the few I saw were rather harmless. This opened the floodgates, though. I heard about it at least twice a week from then on. You talked to him about books, even getting a few books he recommended out of the Library, about X-Box, and about school. You even defended him when kids were teasing him on the playground about how much he liked you. I found that funny because you are a little thing and xxx was twice the height and size of you. You often asked me why the other kids just couldn’t see that you and xxx were friends and that it was OK for a boy and a girl to be friends. Oh my wise little girl!!!
