The title of this layout comes from my son's pajama top, which says, “I love chicks.” I took this photo the night before his first Easter egg hunt as I explained to him what would happen the next day. I don't often journal directly on my layout, but I am trying to make a concerted effort to journal more, so I used strip journaling here. It says:

This is my son at 18M on the night before his first Easter egg hunt. I wanted to school him in how an egg hunt works, so I gathered a bunch of colorful eggs and put Cheerios inside each one. He caught on quickly that the eggs had treats inside and squealed with delight. I told him that Mommy would hide an egg and if he could find it, he could have the treat. So I hid an egg (he watched me) and he ran to get it as soon as I put it down. He opened it immediately, popped the Cheerio in his mouth, and said, “Again!” We played this game many times, long after Easter was over. Every now and then, I still hide an egg for him when he's not looking and wait for him to discover it. This is our favorite game and we both dissolve into laugher whenever he finds one of these plastic eggs. I did this layout to capture the memory of this simple game and the joy we found in the little things.

I realized after the fact that I wrote the journaling as if I were talking to you, instead of to him, lol. I am so used to telling the story in this description box that I wrote the journaling the same way. :-)

I find it hard to design a page with two horizontal photos. Vertical pics are much easier! I find that horizontal pics tend to make the page too boxy. I tried to mitigate this a bit with the curved flower stem and use of scallop paper. I'm open to other suggestions. I appreciate your feedback.
