1/21/2006: Today just may go down in history as my best party EVER!
I asked everybody to bring Holiday pictures and we would make Paper Bag Albums as the focus of the scrapping event, however, in my opinion, this was secondary to all the “pampering” that we had to offer.
There were facials done by my daughter with her Conair steam facial machine, battery-operated exfoliating face cleansing scrubber, toners, choice of 2 different face masks, sliced cucumbers for your eyes, then application of a moisturizer. All of this while your feet were being soaked in a foot massage bath [heated & infrared, of course!) with your choice of several different spa treatments from the “Feet Treats” basket that was full of other foot creams, etc. Oh, and also, the whole time you’re sitting in this seat, the chair is lined with one of those back and buttocks massage pads that you can change to “cycle” or focus on whatever part of your body you wanted massaged!
Following this pampering was the exfoliating hand scrub that was wonderful. It’s called, “Ginger Petals” and it smells so nice. It’s basically sugar with oils, but the fragrance lasts a long time.
Then came the haircuts provided by my mom’s friend, Sandi. She’s been a professional hair stylist all of her life and did a great job with changing my hairstyle from what it has been for the past 10+ years! (Towards my face instead of away.)
The biggest treat of the day was the full hour, full body massages that were done by Sandy and Liz. They were in two separate bedrooms with soft music, a ton of candles, and space heaters.
There were also 2 foot baths that were not the massaging type; rather they had marbles in them and you provided your own manual massage. These were rotating around under our scrapping tables all day.
We played a game all day for all the “scrappers” crowning Queens and naming Princess’ with prizes (well over 20 of them!) that you collected if you were the Queen when the timer went off! You were eligible to become a Queen whenever you assembled your PBA and created the front cover, OR two inside pgs. of the PBA, OR (1) completed 12x12 layout. Whenever you accomplished one of those tasks, you were crowned as the reigning Queen. BUT, along with the title came the responsibility of taking care of any wish from the Princess’. (The Princess’ were the one(s) who were currently in the footbath. Since she couldn’t easily get up and get whatever she needed, this was the Queen’s responsibility!)
Name tags were given to all and it was announced that each should think of a unique “title” for your tag with the requirement of having your first name somewhere on the tag so we could all learn each other’s names throughout the day. Those attending were: “The First Lady, Linda”, along with her “The First Daughter, Stacy”, “Lisa From the Land of Leelah” (my nickname for her since childhood when I first learned of her name and couldn’t pronounce a “s”!), “Princess Snowflake Joanne”, “Tina”, “Sandee”, “Kim”, (I forget their Royal names!) and of course, “The Royal Highness Tracey” [Hey! It was MY party after all!]
We had cucumber water that was served after the massages and we started with the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Martinis after 9pm...they were yummy!
We scrapped until 2:30am! The following morning, my friend Lisa (who spent the night) and I continued to treat ourselves by using the hot paraffin wax dip for your hands, feet, & elbows. I can’t believe this fantastic part of our pampering got buried under a table and we didn’t even miss it the day before. I’m bummed about that since this was sooo nice and only the 2 of us were able to enjoy this. Oh wow! I must buy one of these machines. What a difference that hot wax makes to my very dry and cracked hands!
I was so glad that everybody enjoyed themselves. So much so that Sandee is hosting Round Two of this event at her house in March. Then I plan to do this again in June/July. I suppose I could consider this one a “test” and learn how to make it better the next time.
I think I would assign everybody a number according to the order in which they arrived. They could write their number on their name tag to help keep the flow of all the pampering items in order. I felt very badly that there were several girls that didn’t get one thing or the other because when they went to “do” it, somebody else was there and then they got involved in working on their layout and forgot about their “treat”.
I would also give everybody a prize when they finished writing (or I think you could ask them to “decorate”) their nametag. That way, everybody would have at least one prize and you don’t have to have gifts that are left [like I did!]
I wouldn’t do the “swapping” of the gifts as we did, because not one single person “stole” a gift from anybody else (but then they got to choose a new gift if theirs was stolen.)
I would have the massage therapists come either the night before or the morning of the party and ask them to set up then. It was very chaotic when they arrived an hour after the party started (the time I asked them to come) with all the hustle & bustle that was going on in every room of my downstairs. AND, their wonderful paraffin wax dip would have been set up (by them!)
I’m thinking of charging admission and hiring a professional to do the manicures & pedicures since nobody took advantage of the “Do It Yourself” station that I had set up with alllllllllll the supplies needed. I LOVE these treats, and I’m sorry nobody did them.
I’d print “altered” [scrappy-style] index cards with “instructions” on where to begin and then where to proceed. I think this is needed. Such as:
1.) Facial by Megan [enjoyed in the massage chair with the vibrating foot bath. $-0-]
2.) Hand treatment [kitchen sink area! “Ginger Petals” exfoliating scrub]
3.) Parafin Wax Dip [Do It Yourself, near stove area]
4.) Manicure/Pedicure [Do It Yourself, under microwave] {Don’t forget to grab a SB magazine to read during this treatment!}
5.) Hairstyles by Sandi [$-0-, but tips appreciated]
6.) Massages by Sandy [$40.00 Salon 1 with “Rose Petal” candlelight]
or with Liz [$40.00 Salon #2 with Pier One’s ginger-blend candlelight]
[Note: All scrappers received a $5.00 off “coupon” for their massage.]
7.) Anytime during the day, grab another foot bath and marble container and enjoy being the Princess! [I’d ask the reigning Queen for another Chocolate Covered Cherry to be delivered if I were the Princess!]
Actually, now that I’m thinking about this, I think I’ll send a “Post Holiday Day of Pampering Post Party Evaluation Survey” out to my guests to see how they think I could make this a better event! I think the pampering and the scrapping are a perfect match!
And the last comment that I’d like to make, just so I don’t forget to mention it, is that the weekend was most definitely topped off with grandeur when Lisa & I were still scrapping together on Sunday watching our fabulous Steelers win the AFC Championship title! LET’S GO STEELERS!!! Wouldn’t it be awesome to win Super Bowl XL in Detroit on 2/5/06 to give Bettis his “One for the Thumb” before he [possibly] retires?!!? Woo Hoo! Can’t wait!
