May 8, 1966 : The Byrds at the Sam Houston Coliseum.

The Byrds were an American rock and roll band. Formed in Los Angeles,
California in 1964, The Byrds underwent several personnel changes, with
frontman Roger aka "Jim" McGuinn remaining the sole consistent member
until the group disbanded in 1973. In 1966, the band consisted of Dave Crosby,
Mike Clark and Chris Hillman, along with McGuinn.

Opening for The Byrds were Cannibal and the Headhunters, a Latino group from
Los Angeles who had also opened for The Beatles at the Coliseum in August 1965.
Atlanta born, Tommy Roe of "Shelia" fame and Bobby "Blue Velvet" Vinton were
also featured on the program. Houston's Surf Knights and probably the best vocal
band in Harris County, Baytown's Coastliners rounded out the concert.
I don't have a ticket stub or program for this concert but I'm sure Cheryl must have
gone with me to this one.
