I was reorganizing my scrap pile and found these sweet Crate papers. All the pp here is Crate. They are from different lines, but I thought the colors worked well together. When I saw the birdie paper, I immediately thought of that old Carpenters song, “Close To You,” as it begins “Why do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near? Just like me, they long to be, close to you.” I thought it would be fun to run with that idea on a layout and was happy to find this photo of my son at 10 weeks old that worked well with the song.

I love using a square punch because it's easy to showcase pretty papers without overwhelming the page and it makes quick work of a layout. The chipboard bird and star were plain and I covered them with Crate scraps. For the bird, I added an eye and wing. On both, I added a bit of Glossy Accents, my favorite toy.

The tree border was a leftover from a die cut page that came with Crate Paper's “Little Sprout” kit. The alpha letters are from the same kit. The little cardboard flowers are just random things from my stash. I made the simple tag tucked under the photo to give the date and baby's age.

The journaling is the opening lyrics from the Carpenters' song, “Close to You.”

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

If you're old like me, I probably have you humming the song now, lol. Sorry about that! Thanks for looking.
